The city council passed an occupational tax of 1%. If you make 50k a year and work in Montgomery, you just got a $500 yearly pay cut.

I’m not surprised at all seeing that Reed is a toilet water drinker lover of obama. So this is his way to distribute the wealth.

The reaction of the people that live in Montgomery when they found out they had to pay it also was pretty funny. They were....waaaiiittt a minute.

Auburn does the same thing. Lots of citys do it
Yep. Montgomery originally tried to do it by taxing only the people that lived in other cities and worked in Montgomery which was deemed illegal...if I'm remembering correctly.

The negative population growth should continue when you factor in this with white flight.

And the link I posted says that state legislature’s are on to it and has sent a bill to the senate to make it be approved by them and not a tax happy mayor.

What is an occupational tax and does it stop random gunfire in the city? Basically a payroll tax. If you work in Montgomery, your pay is taxed. It will not help violence. It wont help Montgomery at all.

What is an occupational tax and does it stop random gunfire in the city? It doesn't matter. Wetumpka/ Millbrook is stomping Montgomery's @$$. Y'all just looking at the occupational tax. Compare sales taxes. Compare crime rates. The list goes on and on why to stay out of Montgomery. All these taxes add up.

I wonder if the tax is based on where the employee reports to work, or where payroll gets processed. If the latter, then savvy employers may find a way to process payroll from a satellite location outside The Gump.

What is an occupational tax and does it stop random gunfire in the city? It's taxation without representation and it's clearly unconstitutional.

I thought the legislature was gonna end this crap. Sounds like they’re too late in this case. Assuming it’ll hit the legislators too.

From what I understood, the article says anyone WORKING in Montgomery pays the tax, whether you live there or not. “City council held a public hearing Tuesday to consider the adoption of the tax, which requires anyone working within the Montgomery city limits pay a one percent tax.”
My payroll goes through Denver, CO, so I wonder if I’ll have to pay it?
It still has to go through the legislature but you know those crooked lame ducks will pass it
