I got into it with an "engineer" once about the width of a cabinet. He kept saying it will fit. It didn't. Half an inch too big. No taking it apart and putting it back together inside control room either. Was the day I decided I needed a different place to work.

Engineer’s response that spec’d that cabinet: “...the cabinet is perfect, the space where it goes is 1/2in too small. The architect is a f’n idiot or the contractor can’t read plans.”

My granddaddy got to working on something in a knuckle-busting tight space, he’d always blame the Japs.
His words were “damn nimble-fingered Japs.”

I work at an auto plant and get to deal with them on a daily basis. Like has been mentioned before, the best ones weren’t originally hired in in an engineering role and don’t have a degree. They spent a while on the lines and worked their way into it.
