Gold mining in Alabama is probably one of the best kept secrets in the US. Alabama has a lot of gold. So does Georgia, SC, and NC. How the Indians kept it from DeSoto is a mystery. If Desoto would have found gold here we would be speaking Spanish now. I've been gold prospecting in the hills of east Bama for 2 decades now. I usually can get enough gold to pay for my trip up there and back. I always sell it to a local jeweler. He says all the gold I bring him is 21-23 karat. Almost pure. It is back breaking work, but I enjoy sitting in the creek and shaking a pan. I've found 2 diamonds, black tourmaline, topaz, blue kyanite, mica, and have more garnets than any bama boy should. The mineral bearing ground in Alabama is worth checking out. This is a deer hunting site but there are other outdoor obsessions out there. Prospecting is one of mine. Figured I would share just to plant the seed in case yall may be of interest. Oh and one more thing.......Check the links out below, then look on Google Earth at the mine today. Lot of work going on there. There's only one thing they could be after..... Alabama Gold locations

Dang that’s crazy. My great uncle used to dive the old armory right there by the old L&N bridge back down to the Edmund beat us bridge. Uncle soapy said there was catfish down there by the walls that made jaws look small. Of course he told us kids that to make the story better but he was a B17 pilot in WW2 and didn’t much scare him but that river bottom he said was terrifying as dark as it was

It's been something I've thought about in the past. Surely some of these hill in Jackson County have a little shiny stuff hiding in them.
The fool tells me his reasons; the wise man persuades me with my own.

In alabama? Mmm id say your odds are better with seeing bigfoot or a panther. A black panther at that. Here's a book you should look into buying..... Read before you post

There is 2 different high fence. 1 small and one big! Mine was free range in the big pen and was not a breeder buck. Why does it have to be twisted around??

Once your eyes adjusted you could see maybe 12 inches. Never saw those huge catfish but was always told they were there especially around the damns.

Pretty sure there are/were gold mines all around Lake Martin. What the OP is saying is true. Yea there’s a creek near Lake Martin, it make actually dump into Martin, called Goldmine Creek. There’s def gold in them hills, but sparse I’d imagine. Sounds like a fun hobby
