I did one night about 1:30am at my house about 3-4 yrs ago. Some guy pulled up standing at my back door. I went out with glock in hand made him get out of his car as he was trying to back out. Checked his pockets for weapons, put his drivers license in my pocket. Had him sit on ground at gunpoint until police arrived. He was well known. Had pot, meth & meth pipe on him and in car. He was arrested and car towed.
He was so methed out he didn’t remember his old girlfriend had moved away from here 5 yrs prior. Some will say BS but I have the pics to prove it

If he does you’d be very, very wise to pay attention. If you ever find yourself facing those issues he would definitely be the one you’d want representing you in my opinion.

As for the legal ramifications. If you are in fear for your life and he doesn't turn and haul ass, I think you would be covered for shooting him. You would still probably get taken to the police station and questioned. You certainly don't have to wait for him to stab you to shoot him. If he throws down the knife or he turns and runs, you are going to have a hard time saying the shooting is justified.

Remember if you have to shoot him, dead men can't tell a different version of the facts than you. Live men can.

Wise words right there.

What if I pop the perp in the kneecap, take his knife and wallet and leave? Is it to the victor go the spoils?7

Rest assured that some goober smoocher got it recorded on a cell phone and can't wait to post it to YouTube.

Me too, just don’t forget his Obama phone. Ditch it in the nearest creek you find.

It was Avondale park at lunch time. I work near there and wanted to get out of the office even though I brought my lunch. Sat in my truck to eat because of the rain. Made my way over to a covered picnic table with my umbrella to have a smoke after eating. This scruffy homeless looking dude walks up in the rain. In one hand he is holding a cell phone. In the other, he discreetly has a knife. Standing so his body almost blocks my view of it. He said, "let me see your phone " I laughed at him and said, "man I ain't giving you my phone!" He made the knife clear and told me"give me your phone." I smiled at him amd pulled the pistol. Then I told him, "I said no." His face went blank with shock and eyes got huge. He put the knife away and stepped back away from me to the edge of the cover just out of the rain. He said, "I need a cigarette " I laughed and told him I would give him that. (I thought of the end of pulp fiction. I'm giving you this so I don't have to kill your dumb butt") though I didn't say that part to him. I reached in my pocket, pulled one out with one hand and he stretched as far as he could so I wouldn't feel threatened as he took it. He stood there like his life flashed before his eyes. Frozen like a statue. Just held the unlit smoke standing under the cover with the rain pouring down. I walked off and left him there. He never moved.

I should have called the cops for the reasons mentioned above. Honestly it didn't cross my mind. I was happy to be safe and just amazed at how stupud he was. I was having a really bad and weird day already. This just was so crazy that it didn't cross my mind.

Guy I worked with 7-8 years ago was walking 5pts area with his wife and was confronted by druggie with a gun who requested his wallet. He obliged and tossed it on the ground; then drew and shot him as he reached for it. Was his fourth holdup of the night. Unfortunately; he survived.

Sounds like you handled it about as well as you could have. Glad you weren’t hurt and you don’t have the hassle and trauma of killing him. What would have happened if you hadn’t been carrying? ( by the way I spelled it perfectly and this damn iPhone autocorrected “serving”instead of carrying)

I have been in this situation a few times and have never had to had to actually kill someone thankfully but I have been scary close on more than one occasion. It is extremely difficult in the heat of an altercation to think about “dead men tell no tales.” You should also consider that if you commit to pulling the trigger to shoot in one string until you are certain the threat is neutralized/dead. With today’s investigation techniques if you “finish” someone off after the fact it will come out and you will be in far worse shape than dealing with a discrepancy of events.
