Guy I worked with 7-8 years ago was walking 5pts area with his wife and was confronted by druggie with a gun who requested his wallet. He obliged and tossed it on the ground; then drew and shot him as he reached for it. Was his fourth holdup of the night. Unfortunately; he survived. Pretty quick thinking by your co-worker ... dang shame the guy lived

Remember if you have to shoot him, dead men can't tell a different version of the facts than you. Live men can. This is the best quote I’ve heard in a while and so true Years ago, I worked at a building supply place. We sold everything from a pound of nails to whole house packages. Anyway, there was a lumber salesman who came by once a week. He looked the part, but not the part of a lumber salesman. He drove an early 2000s, baby blue Lincoln Town Car, wore bright colored suits with popped collars, gold chains and pinkie rings. He was always asking if I had any pistols for sale, ones without papers. One day I went out to his car to get some shirts or something he was giving us for being customers. As he popped his trunk, I made a statement about how it was big enough to put a body in. He never missed a beat and said “dead men tell no tales”. I always wondered if he was full of bs or was really into something shady.

The guy is obviously short some chromosomes.. I can’t wrap my head around him still wanting a smoke from you after that incident. That’s crazy! He did have that vibe. Probably why he is on the street. I mean that in the most somber of ways.

I actually started carrying my wallet on the left due to a torn right rotator cuff. It was almost impossible to reach my right pocket. Anyone who has ever had a large cuff tear knows what I mean. But it has since become habit and now it's just second nature to drop my 380 in the right hip pocket.

That was 10 years ago, before the surgery. I can reach it now.

It was Avondale park at lunch time. I work near there and wanted to get out of the office even though I brought my lunch. Sat in my truck to eat because of the rain. Made my way over to a covered picnic table with my umbrella to have a smoke after eating. This scruffy homeless looking dude walks up in the rain. In one hand he is holding a cell phone. In the other, he discreetly has a knife. Standing so his body almost blocks my view of it. He said, "let me see your phone " I laughed at him and said, "man I ain't giving you my phone!" He made the knife clear and told me"give me your phone." I smiled at him amd pulled the pistol. Then I told him, "I said no." His face went blank with shock and eyes got huge. He put the knife away and stepped back away from me to the edge of the cover just out of the rain. He said, "I need a cigarette " I laughed and told him I would give him that. (I thought of the end of pulp fiction. I'm giving you this so I don't have to kill your dumb butt") though I didn't say that part to him. I reached in my pocket, pulled one out with one hand and he stretched as far as he could so I wouldn't feel threatened as he took it. He stood there like his life flashed before his eyes. Frozen like a statue. Just held the unlit smoke standing under the cover with the rain pouring down. I walked off and left him there. He never moved.
I should have called the cops for the reasons mentioned above. Honestly it didn't cross my mind. I was happy to be safe and just amazed at how stupud he was. I was having a really bad and weird day already. This just was so crazy that it didn't cross my mind. You were there. I was not. So I am not saying any of this as a criticism, just my own feelings and opinion on the subject. I've been doing martial arts for about 45 years, and the one I have a black belt in for 20. A knife scares me worse than a gun. Most thugs don't practice with a gun, and holding a "gangsta" grip, they will probably miss you. A guy with a knife can cover 12 to 15 feet in a couple of split seconds, and all he has to do is slash once and hit an artery and you are done, you will bleed out in 90 seconds or so. Lose about half your blood volume and you will have a better than good chance of dying in two or three days. I have trained quite a bit in knife defense and knife take-aways. Don't trust a fool with a knife. Don't let your guard down. Not for a split second. It gives me chills just thinking about it.

last week when it was storming. My BIL (co-worker) and I,had just left work, i was pulling up to the highway to turn on. A black dude jumped in front of my truck right before the stop sign, when i stopped he walked over to the passenger window i had just let down a few inches. I figured there must be something wrong for him to be out in this rain with the lightning popping like it was. Anyways he asks for a ride down the road. I looked in the back seat and said it was full, rifle and shotgun in case, hunting boots and jacket. When i looked back at him he was walking to the back door, I went to lock door but he had already opened it. He jumps in. So i say what the hell its on my way home and only a few miles down the road, I already had gun in my hand. We get a mile down the road and this joker starts moving around a bunch, grunting and growling. I'm getting a little nervous at this point. We get to level plains and he asks can i take him to enterprise. So i keep driving, the grunting and growling continue and i ask if he's alright, he don't even answer me. I'm real nervous at this point, I can see him in the rearview, so i'm watching every move thinking I'm fixing to have to burn through this dude any second. I look back again and this dude has his hands together and is praying (hands shaking). We get to enterprise and he wants to go to up the hill towards walmart, I tell him" this is the best i can do for ya" I pull up to the store and this fella gets out and runs toward the store high stepping like he's running through tall weeds. I think there might of been some mental illness combined with chemical problems with this guy, Its a damn shame you can't help folks for risk of finding crazy.

I was robbed at a small gas station several years ago, out in the middle of nowhere, while I was traveling to a jobsite. I stopped to get gas and 5 thugs took $40.00 off of me. The crazy thing is I had a Sig Sauer .380 in my pocket. I can tell you, a million things goes through your mind in about 2 seconds and you don’t know what you’ll do until you’re in that situation. I thought about pulling my pistol but then thought, what if one or more of them have one too. I will be greatly outgunned. Then I thought, even if they don’t have a pistol on them, they probably have one in their car and I’m 15 miles off the interstate and Lord knows how dar from the next town where this jobsite is. I decided since all they wanted was my little bit of cash, that the best thing to do was hand it over. Had it been only one of them, it would be a different story. Here’s the kicker. The Sig I was carrying was brand new, bought from SIMMONS Sporting Goods that I had not even fired yet. Huge mistake. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, carry a firearm you have been practicing with. The reason this was such a mistake is I decided to fire the pistol a few day’s later and practice. Turned out the pistol had a defect and wouldn’t fire. SIMMONS has to send it back to the manufacturer and they gave me a new one. Just think had I pulled the pistol on self defense only to find out, if it came to it, that it wouldn’t fire.
If voting made any difference, they wouldn’t let us do it.-Mark Twain

Remember if you have to shoot him, dead men can't tell a different version of the facts than you. Live men can.
I had an attorney friend tell me the exact same thing. I've had attorneys as well as LEO's tell me the same thing
