at my club in butler county we haven't seen the first buck with a doe or even any younger bucks pushing or chasing does during daylight hours. I still have bucks coming to feeders and what not at night. I've seen some chasing on camera but its all at night time. I can't quite comprehend this as everyone around is busting off shots left and right and we cant seem to see any mature bucks. either we just aren't in the right place at the right time or our bucks are in lock down. I saw 15 does and yearlings in one spot (which is not common here) for two days in a row and not a single buck with any of them. anyone else having this issue?

You may have answered your question. It’s quite possible if you’re seeing 10-15 unantlered deer and nothing with antlers you’ve either got way too many does or you too few bucks for the does in estrous. The few bucks around don’t have to look hard for a willing doe so they’re simply not getting seen by your hunters. theres only one particular spot on 1600 acres that I see that many does and its because i haven't been killing them. everywhere else if you see 2-3 does in a foodplot, thats a normal hunt. generally every year except this one, i see more bucks than I do does so i dont believe we have too many does. We've killed over 100 does in 8/9 years and maybe 10 bucks. our neighborsx absolutely wax the does also if that changes your opinion. i just dont understand it, I feel like if we shoot more does then we would never see deer

Ok. We can throw that theory out. At the onset of rut it’s fairly common to have bucks push does that are in estrous into tight cover and most ppl don’t really see a lot of rutting behavior until the latter stages of rut when estrous does are becoming scarce. That’s often when the big boys make mistakes. Be patient. It’ll pick up. Last weekend was the first time i have witnessed this. I sat down in a shooting house that is around 100 yards away from the field it overlooks, there was a ridge with some decent cover around 50 yards away and within 5 min of sitting down i start seeing antler everywhere. I had a really big buck, a borderline shooter and 3 other small bucks with one doe in that small area. The doe would bed down and so would the two big bucks. The smaller ones would run off and chase other deer but the 2 big ones stayed right there. I thought they had left because when they bedded down i could not see them anymore, a couple of hours later they stood back up and i could see glimpses of them again. The doe didn't move 30 yards the entire afternoon and the bucks would move in circles around her and work some limbs and rubs but surprisingly were not aggressive with each other. I never could get a clean shot and i eventually eased out at dark. A week later my neighbor saw the same 2 bucks locked down with a doe on the complete opposite side of our property. It was pretty cool seeing that.

Colbert county, been seeing groups of up to 10 or more does all season long. Saw one 4pt following them 10 days ago. I think the ratio is way off The group is not where you find the hot doe. Find a doe by herself and you have a chance otherwise you are wasting time.
