Texas pretty much sucks in every way that anyplace can possibly suck.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

Your friends eyes will pop out of their head when they see the housing prices in Huntsville. I dont know why someone would want to move there just to retire. It's super congested and has a high cost of living. It's a great place to work, but dead last on my list of places to retire. Not compared to home prices in the DFW area. a 400k home in the Dallas market barely gets you 2300 sq ft on a zero lot line. And let's not even compare traffic between the two. It's all a matter of prospective. They want to be close to a major hospital, and Huntsville has plenty of healthcare choices.

I worked in the Mason TX area back in the late 70s. That's TX Hill Country and I really liked it there. LOTS of deer. LOTS.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

This made pretty much ZERO sense to me and I was just curious... so I looked up a couple things
The first was if you work you will pay 5% State Income Tax. How does that save you vs. $2k additional in property tax? And property taxes aren't low as dirt everywhere either. Swoop into Huntsville there in a big house and you'll pay. $3k+ in tax for a decent house in a decent neighborhood in Birmingham is an all day affair. And that's just about where it gets started in many areas.
What about the fact that Alabama is ranked 4th HIGHEST in the country for sales taxes. Your Milk and Eggs and Bread... yea... we gonna tax that. Eat Bologna then. Groceries in N Alabama are high as hail. I'll go shop down in South Alabama and most times I'm thinking "did you ring all this up right."
The same job will demand roughly 30% more in wages in the DFW area.
Come to Alabama. Get a crappy pay check and save $2k on your property taxes....
and lastly,
Come to one of the worst run and poorest States in the entire County and save money on your Property taxes!
here is my suggestion:
Lousiana and MS are the only States that have us beat.... if the Short Bus breaks down there on the way here be advised.... just pop a tent and stay if that's what you are looking for.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Moving your entire household/family to another state for a few thousand bucks a year makes zero sense to me.
Come to Mississippi where you get to pay high property tax (2-4X what Alabama’s is) and a 5% state income tax. Don’t forget car tags...ridiculous

Ok, property taxes are high, but the income tax is reasonable. Doesn't matter, govt will get you somehow.

Maybe someday AL will tax govt retirements like most states. But then most states have a lottery too.
