There is something primal and instinctive about killing or catching all you can with a lot of men. I have seen it my entire life. From the guys cobia fishing every day for 2 months straight and killing every one they see to the guy killing every deer he can. I have seen people gigging flounder make multiple trips home in one night (so they don't have over the limit on them) and back to gig more. Look back at the passenger pigeon that is now extinct and the bison that would be if not for one man who saved them. Whitetail deer were wiped out from most states not that long ago. I don't understand it.

If you had a family of 4 and ate 2lbs of deer meat 4 times a week for dinner.

Roughly 6 deer would feed you for a year.

If you "need" to shoot more deer than that to "feed your family" I would suggest looking for a job. If you can't find one move somewhere you can get one. If you are trying to tell me McDonalds won't hire you you are FOS.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

We had a foreman on a logging crew several years ago that we were pretty sure was wearing our turkeys out. Finally talked to one of the higher ups at Weyerhaeuser and got it stopped. Never actually caught him in the act but he would drive around in his pickup in full camo around the area being logged and we heard several suspicious shots over a few weeks span

It is NOT a widespread issue with loggers. If it was, we would see them do it, hear them talk about it, see evidence on site - at some point - we are around them too often. Not saying 1 out of 100 crews may be shooting some deer. But dang, y’all come can up with some crazy stuff.

There is 119 days of Alabama hunting season so 1 doe a day and 3 bucks a season. If you just wanted to slaughter them then legally the state says you can. I personally just don't have the opportunity to kill even 5 a year.

If I felt I need to kill more than 6 deer per year to feed my family, and was doing it legally, I would tell you to kiss my ass.

That was the only issue we've had as far as we know. I have no problem with loggers

I personally know one logging owner that I’m sure his guys don’t shoot deer on the job. I know for sure 2 other companies that do for sure. If either of the later 2 was cutting on your lease I can guarantee they would shoot a couple if given any kind of chance. All 3 of these are from Calhoun talladega area

There is this Facebook page called Alabama Deer Hunting the best there is, it is 80percent per rednecks shooting spikes and multiple does. I am a part of it for the pure comedy of it, we have created a new page with some quality members but I still like to look at it. There is this one guy that has shot 20 bucks this year in Alabama and I commented how is he not in jail and he comments back he knows about loopholes and what not and they are not in the regulations guide that I go by. It is so redneck that my comment enraged other rednecks that I was a game warden in disguise and the government can’t tell these “true hunters” how many to kill. It really shows what we are up against in Alabama trying to grow a strong healthy deer population.

I've killed truckloads at a time off of land that was extremely overpopulated. Anyone here ever seen 6,000 acres with a visible brows line, not a green twig, green leaf or anything unless it was 6' or higher off the ground? It's not a pretty sight, the land and deer population or the control methods.

I haven't enjoyed deer hunting since then!

I feed 30+ a night in my yard and know the population has to be kept in check but shooting deer in numbers for sport or bragging rights is ridiculous!

Anyone killing deer to sale is a common criminal!

True Bama Hunters is even more entertaining than Alabama Deer Hunters. That “feeding my family” bunch on there is one if the most easily triggered and confrontational groups of people I’ve ever seen.

It's fun when state (or fed) agencies who monitor social media pages on FB, Instagram or other sites starts putting things together to make cases.

If I were a state wildlife agency director, I'd create an internet-cyber investigative unit or hire-find-train at least one or two people on my staff to be cyber sleuths.

A lot of people who are online are so incredibly stupid or ignorant, or both, that it IMO wouldn't be hard to get leads and build cases.

Do you hunt within 75 miles of Alberta on Hwy 5? Has your lease been logged any in the last 12 months, or are they cutting now?

If so, it may be YOUR club he shot some of them off of. They were likely all killed during the day and during the week (monday through friday) when the lease holders are usually at work.

This situation would be one of the few good reasons to have a retired member in your club. He could watch the loggers while everybody else is gone.

Naw I didn't miss that lol. And i don't know too many white (wonder if he's black 🤔) folks that live up there "full time" (there is some) You know they're currently logging about a mile from the Bend hmmmm..

it ain't that dang hard. Most I killed was 34 in one season, all daylight, and all legal. Broke 30 several other years.

I've known several outlaws that killed 40-50 a season, not all daylight, and certainly not all legal. But it can be done.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I havent reported any of my kills.

But all I have shot this year is 3 hogs and 2 coyotes. Rather my kids shoot any deer, and they report them on the app.

My Dad's side of the family (his dad anyway, his Mother was from Salitpa in Clarke County) is from just south of there in Arlington. My grandfather used to buy cattle from the black farmers all around Gee's Bend. He worked for the Govt as a liason between the Govt and the residents who had been given 40 acres and a small house. Yeah there's less and less white folks up there all the time. We had about 25 in church at Arlington Methodist on Sunday though. That was very encouraging. Usually we could all sit on one pew. My grandparents old house in Arlington was in foreclosure a while back. Probably could have bought it for a song but didn't pursue it.

The whole place is different than I remember as a child in the 70's. Its 180* from what my Dad remembered growing up there. He graduated from Pine Hill High School in 1950. They burned all the Pine Hill public schools rather than integrate in the early 70's (late 60's?).

Lunch at Mike's Country Kitchen in Pine Hill is still good though. I ate there when it was the Dairy Creme. On the whole though, I'd say it hasn't devolved as badly as Selma.
