Ok. Let me help everyone lost in the conversation. First of all, remember, this state is full of dumb ass Rednecks. Always remember that! Second, the most important thing to BWW is limiting liability!
Now that we have cleared that up, let me explain a few other things. BWW was not going to open bid that land due to liability. They knew that a bunch of dumbass rednecks could and would bid high and win the land. Then they would do what Rednecks do.
Furthermore, the guy that leased the land also leases another huge chunk of land down the street from another organization that does not lease land to dumbass rednecks. They are also limited to liability.
Yes, this land is heavily poached. This in itself causes liability BWW knows this. The person who leased the land has an amazing reputation and has several references to back him up to his character and his ability to manage land. He brought all of these things and a low liability proposal to the BWW with check in hand. Yes it was only $20;000.00 but once again, money does not matter, liability does. This was a well done business deal!
Therefore, BWW has someone running the redneck poachers off the land and also has a person managing the land properly and does it with limited liability.
Case closed. Everyone go back to figuring out who shot Kennedy.

What a bargain....
Is this the same guy that hunts nearby property with high powered air rifles ?
Anyone on here would have done the same deal if they would have thought about it first. Who paid for the fence?

Didn’t say they weren’t corrupt.......just saying Mark Peebles isn’t corrupt. Just smart. For the record, there is only 10 guys hunting that 6,000 acre tract. They have already harvested some beasts out there too. Bham Fred(Troy) knows Marks other land he leases. Bham Fred once hunted that land too.

BigBore So how does wanting to limit their liability release them from our state's bid laws?
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

BigBore So how does wanting to limit their liability release them from our state's bid laws? It doesnt and that is the point. I'd be very surprised if several of the BWW management team aren't "non-paying club members" in the deal. I don't personally know who the guy is that ended up with it. Big Bore, sounds like the guy that got it is a buddy of yours and it absolutely was a back room deal. If BWW was concerned about liability, the bid docs should have specified, bow only, minimum per acre bid price, and a maximum number of 7-10 lease participants along with mgmt expectations and requirements. That's the legal and state approved manner in which to lease public assets in the state of AL. The bid docs should have been written it that manner to specifically to keep the 50 rednecks (as you say) from being able to pool thier pennies and lease it up and create liability for BWW (as you say). Then again, had BWW done this, the price would have gotten bid up to FMV by multiple groups like the group of 5 to 7 financial and legal professionals (all with impecable reputations and references LOL) that my brother and his buddies, and others, would have put together on it. Fact is, BWW leased it to a buddy or someone they knew on a sweet heart deal knowing full well that it was a highly marketable commodity, the property was worth 6 times what they got for it, and there were numerous groups (well known professionals in the Bham community) just like the guy that got it, that would have jumped at the chance to lease it, stroked the check, and offered the same deal and significantly more $$. Fact is someone at BWW wanted that particular person to have it and cut the deal under the table and outside of the state's bid laws. How BWW legally got around that, remains to be answered.

I was using the unemployment taking aspect of the word. I've 'taken' unemployment occasionally in years gone by. It's not Welfare. I reckon we can't be friends due to that. I suspect you're a friend of the guy that got this back alley deal anyway.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Nope.....dont know him personally. But know of him and i know others that know him. Sounds like the kind of man that most strive to be. I honestly dont know anything about the state bid laws but if someone did something wrong, i hope they are held accountable. I was only speaking about the guy who got the land. As someone else stated, a piece of land like that was bound to be picked up by someone who could drop a check at the word go. But then again, everything in this world works that way. There are haves and have nots. Always have been always will be. Not trying to argue philosophy of wealth and poverty in America. Just making since of how all of this went down.
Love this forum but Damn there are a lot of jealous people on here. I try to be happy for those who have lots of money and can afford to have great land to hunt monster whitetails. I assume most of them worked real hard to make that money and spend it on a sport that they love.
Also no, i do not hunt with Mark. I never even met him. And yes, that is a fantastic piece of property full of trophy deer that only a very fortunate group of select people will get to enjoy! I know they have already killed a few monsters out there.
If someone at BWW did something illegal or unethical, they should answer for their actions But I doubt that happened. To much exposure.

Lots of folks making assumptions and allegations without any direct knowledge of how this transaction occurred. Like you said BB, jealousy seems to be the primary reason.

I don't think it's necessarily jealously. And I know for a fact that it's not on my part because I can't afford anything like that and already have a nice place in TN. I believe it's the overwhelming knowledge/FACT of the corrupt municipality that Birmingham as a whole is that overshadows any sliver of honest transactions taking place.
