Who has had it? Did you have surgery? How did recovery go? How long were you essentially one-armed?

I ain't never went to a doctor for a slap. Probably needed stitches a time or two, but I just used a bandaid.

had a SLAP Bankhardt procedure (SLAP and rotator cuff) the day hurricane Ivan rolled in with sustained 60+mph winds in Columbus, ms....the ride home with my wife driving in that wind SUK'D, seemed like she hit every pothole she could or even couldn't see!!! I was in a sling for 6 weeks before starting rehab (I guess recovery has changed, b/c friends have had it since then and started rehabbing the next day). I was released to shoot 3 months after surgery.
experience is a freakin' awesome teacher....

I don't know what a slap tear is, so I thought it was going to be a thread about a funny You Tube video or something like that. The shoulder labrum is a ring of cartilage around the shoulder socket that stabilizes the head of the upper arm bone. A SLAP tear or lesion occurs when there is damage to the top of the labrum, or where the biceps tendon connects to the labrum.

Thank y'all for the responses so far. This is what I have been dealing with for almost a year now. I just thought I had slept wrong when it started so I thought whatever it was would just work itself out, but finally went to try to find out what the deal was in September. Thanks to the medical insurance requirement to try conservative treatment first, it has taken awhile to get the diagnosis and recommended treatment pinned down.

Depends on the degree of year and what you can tolerate. After surgery you will need PT. You will be in a sling and won't be able to use your biceps for a while. Because the area of a slap year is the same as the attachment point of the biceps. Slow recovery cause shoulders are more mobile, but these get done every day. If your hurting enough to be limited in life, get the surgery.
