Has anyone here purchased steel cargo containers to put at their farm or deer camp for tools, ATVs, supplies, storage, etc.? (The ones that they stack on ships to bring in goods from other countries.)

Just trying to get an idea of what they cost and what it costs to get one delivered -- basically are they worth fooling with?

How long do they last? Are they completely "dry storage." Are they good and secure when you lock them?

Thanks for any insight here.

Thanks for any insight here.

i would say it depends on three things, Cash Flow, your imagination and your construction skills. Theres a company in Hammond that builds them to suit.

Try to keep it at least partially shaded, and if possible rig up a vent fan or 3.........otherwise, it'll be 200* inside it on a summer afternoon

Good for all the above. cost around $3,000 last I checked. I would try to get one with a lock box so the padlock is not out in open.

Usually see them sell for around $2000.00 give or take at auctions. If your good with a welder and torch you can do almost anything with them.

They’re quickly becoming the cheap rural dry storage that’s taking the place of old school buses.

I have 2 20 ft ones. They were around $1600 each when I got them. They are dry and secure. I put mine up off the ground on RR ties. Keeps the bottom from being wet and possibly rotting. Made a HD lock box to go over padlocks. You can find vents made just for connex boxes online to help with ventilation. Keep one off the ground and the leaves and stuff off the top of it to prevent rusting out and it should easily last 40 years or longer.

The place posted above in Prattville sales the longer ones for $2900 and delivery of $150 withen 60 miles.

I have a big one, 54 feet I think. It was $3,000 delivered. Love it. Keep everything valuable at the farm in it. It's totally dry and you are not getting in it without a torch or the key.

Keep tools, ATVs, seed, whatever you need out of the elements and the criminals hands.

It might be the best $3,000 ever spent.

How do they offload them upon delivery?

Most will have a tilt bed trailer. Backs up to the spot you want it and it slides off.

Roll off bed.

We used a tractor to move it around and get it level.

It could be done cheaper if you did the labor yourself.

That total cost includes paying labor and supplies.

Just trying to get an idea of what they cost and what it costs to get one delivered -- basically are they worth fooling with? I've bought them as cheap as $500 and up. Yes, they are worth fooling with. Just make sure the welds are good, especially those above.

How long do they last? Forever, or at least the rest of your lifetime. Are they completely "dry storage." If the welds and seals (some have rubber around the doors) are good, then yes. Are they good and secure when you lock them? Hell yes. most have integral locking system secured w/most pad locks.

Thanks for any insight here.

The Deanco auction this week in Headland has some of these containers in it. FYI
