I'm gonna go on limb and say this one's closer than expected.

The game is almost a pick with Auburn-1.5 and the money line is close , too. I only know because a friend of mine sports bets and asked what I thought. I told him I wouldn't touch it and wouldn't be surprised if Alabama won tonight. Playing on the road is no joke, as Kentucky is finding out against SC right now.

Hoops can be a funny game. I haven't kept up religiously, but from what I've noticed Alabama is better than earlier in the year when they lost non-con games to lesser teams.

I thought Avery would be the one, but obivously not. I think Oats may be the guy, though, to bring them out of the weeds. He's a legit coach.

I never believed Avery would get it done but I think Oates can get them back to being a perennial tourney team. He's got a tough hill to climb but what Pearl is doing is the biggest motivation for the University to stay motivated to keep improving their program.

The PG for Auburn , McCormick, is going to need to get A LOT better or he's going to cost them a few games this year. He makes several bad decisions and turnovers every game I've watched him play, this year.

Auburn is playing like a tournament team at times and Bama street ball but somehow continues to lead. It should be an interesting finish.

Auburn won't go deep with McCormick at PG. He makes way too many bad decisions and turns it over too much. Pearl will get all they are capable of out of them but McCormick wouldn't start at any other school in the top 25, in my opinion.

If Oates ever gets Alabama to play close to the level they play at home they'll be tough to beat. Unfortunately, they have looked like a completely different team on the road but that's been their standard M.O. for several years.

I can tell a huge difference in this team and years past. The biggest improvement is moving without the ball, making free throws, and continuing to cut down on turnovers. They had Fl down by 20 on the road. It took the gators 2 ots to come back. We should have beaten KY but we’re just too gassed at the end. Ky just had superior talent, but it was nice to see the effort. Bama fought till the end.

Oats is a coach that I believe can develop players. John Petty is 3 times the player this year than he was last year.

Auburn played like crap! Bama played like crap but shot free throws well(this is kind of like having a good field goal kicker). Auburn is a great team Bama is a team with lots of talent but not the discipline to win most big games. Good win for Bama but man when they play in Auburn it will be ugly

Congratulations to Bama, they wanted it more. Auburn has had periods of very sloppy play in every game I've watched this year, it was for most of the game last night.

Oats wants us to continue to shoot threes, well if we do, we better be ready to get some more offensive rebounds, because our three point shooters are worse than the little sisters from the poor. I did like our toughness on the defensive end, that will get us some wins if we can keep that up. I agree with some of the others, Bruce Pearl is a great coach. To some other commenters, Bama has cared about basketball, go back and look at when C.M. Newton and Wimp roamed the sidelines, yep a long time ago. Auburn did a great thing a few years ago by building a smaller arena, why, they could not fill their large arena. Alabama hasn't spent the money to demolish Coleman and start over. Then again, if we keep winning, 14,000 + fans will have a major affect on our players. They even said it after the game. I've been to a lot of games in Coleman from the 80's with Wimp until now. There is a major difference in intensity. I think if Oats keeps putting a quality product on the floor, that place will be packed.

Interesting stat I saw said that Bama has won 9 of the past 11 in Tuscaloosa. No idea if that’s correct.

Alabama is really, really tough at home. If Oates gets them to play at close to that level on the road they will be a tourney team this year. They are still a couple of recruiting classes away from competing for the SEC title but it took Pearl a few seasons to get Auburn to where they are. Anyone that follows basketball recruiting knows you don't normally get the recruits Auburn is getting if you aren't one of basketball's elite programs. No, Auburn isn't elite yet , but Pearl is recruiting like they are. Oates will need to hold his own in that department but he has clearly shown he can motivate and coach the x's and o's.

Well auburn is a sure thing...... but if Alabama keeps improving, winning at home and can steal a couple of games on the road they will be in also.

Auburn game was probably the only one he’s watched. Most impressive thing about them to me so far is that they beat auburn and almost beat Kentucky on the road when they couldn’t hit 3’s. So they don’t live and die by it by any means but when they are hitting them they will be tough to beat.

And I guess after last night Bama has the best 3 point percentage in the conference. Somehow Vandy was 0-25 last night on 3’s!

Yes.. the Kentucky game impressed me more than the Auburn game. I’m not knocking Auburn. They are a really good team, but Bama was hot and on the home court. At Kentucky, like you said, they couldn’t hit a three, but fought hard and nearly out Kentuckied kentucky. Their ability to drive the paint and move without the ball, not to mention actually hitting free throws is night and day better than last year.

I like the direction they are headed.
