I’m trying to introduce my son to hunting but he refuses to shoot a gun. It kills me but that’s another thread... He enjoys archery from what I can gather from a couple of instances he had to shoot a bow at summer camp. I’m trying to find him a crossbow to use just to get him in the woods. I know I can spend a bunch of money and get something that might just gather dust. What is the bare bones unit I can get that’ll reliably give me a 40 yd shot? Any suggestions on youth models that he might could get a couple of years out of? He’s 8 years old and touching 90-95 lbs.

I bought a carbon express pile driver off midway for 200$ this year. My 8 yr old killed his first deer with it opening day of bow season.

What was the distance? Can you shoot 110 gr broadheads?

He killed the deer about 22 yds, but it shoots very well to 40 and probably beyond. I suppose you could use a 110 grain head. We are shooting 125s. Good luck.
