Not much has changed for us since Dec 8th. Had a young buck try to mount a doe but she ran off. He’s been harassing the does but none of the other bucks seem to be. As of the 22 the does are still grouped together and only the young bucks are showing up on trail camera here in Bibb Co.

I’m wondering if an over abundance of does is my problem but I have heard of other people having similar issues. Only 3 shots heard this morning around me which is really low.

Not a lot of movement. Had a 3yo pushing a doe last Week. But just not a whole lot of movement or deer seen recently. Hopefully they will bust loose here soon if we can get some right weather.

My son just heard two bucks fighting a couple of ridges over, he grunted and they stopped for a second and went back at it, this was at 11am

Still pretty dead here, deer are showing right at dark now and no chasing to be seen.

Sounds like our little place over in Talladega. I gave up hunting nocturnal deer.
Even the rut happens at night there.

I may be wrong but I think I witnessed some chasing this evening. Had a baby doe come in from the cutover to feed at 4:50, just behind her was a lot of noise and movement. I kept hearing sounds like something was moving through the brush but from different directions. I caught sight of a older doe as she trotted through an opening in the underbrush and a few seconds later another deer but I couldn’t tell much about it, pretty sure it was a young spike. They ran around the cutover almost in circles at times before running directly into my scent path and out of hearing. They came back through, ran around some more before going out of my hearing again.

When I was walking in this evening I saw some tracks that sure did look like a buck had chased a doe down the road I was walking in on after it rained I am gone pull a card when I come out in the morning and see what's happening I am getting a ton of bucks bucks fighting, young bucks chasing does I think the weather is playing a part in why I'm not seeing anything...it's usually slow around here in December but this year has been stupid slow I also got a couple spots I ain't hunted all year yet I been saving it and I'm bout ready to catch the right wind and hit one of them

Found some fresh rubs and pulled a card today, since the storms are about to come in. Photos of 3-4 bucks still hanging together, couple of other older ones wandering separately.

I’m getting a lot of big guys showing up on trail cameras, but it’s still in the middle of the night here in Bibb/Shelby County. Getting some new bucks that aren’t my regular guys too. A lot of them are swole up too. A couple of hunting buddies have killed a couple of deer chasing, but me personally I haven’t seen anything. I’ll be in the woods tomorrow after this cold front comes in. Maybe they’ll be moving. One thing I did notice when I checked my cameras was A LOT of big fresh scrapes. Where I hunt the scrapes had disappeared for a few weeks, but now they are back with a vengeance. I don’t know, I just may not be catching them at the right place. Where I hunt the rut is normally around the 15th-17th, but they definitely weren’t chasing then. Weird.

So stupid question, if I had a young buck chasing 4 days ago will rattling still be effective or a doe estrus call, or have I missed my best opportunity

Bigger bucks are starting to move during daylight hours. I saw a small 6 point chasing a doe on Saturday afternoon so the big boys should get going this week or next.

The last week or so it seems like deer movement in daylight is limited to the the first and last hour of daylight whereas before we would see deer any time of the day. Rut is definitely on though.
