Is a straight shift like putting the gear shofter straight into drive or the m positionnwith the button that changes the number on the dash?

Unfortunately I have to back an enclosed trailer every day. And stick shifts are no problem. Teaching my 2 oldest to drive a stick now, girl who is 16 and a boy who is 15. It's been a damn adventure to say the least .....

Learned on 60''s 3 on tree Ford at about 8 years old. I don't remember not knowing how to drive the truck. I guess I actually learned to use a clutch on a 3000 Ford tractor. Our 4000 i wasn't strong enough to press the clutch. I had to stand up and pull against the steering wheel to press it all the way to the floor. So the truck was easy.

I learned early because my job every afternoon this time of year was to goto the "garden" and cut down corn stalks to feed the cows. We fed them stalks and pumpkins that we grew.
I'll never own another cow as long as I live--- I think that's why I like steak so much.

I can put a trailer anywhere, with our without mirrors. I just assumed anyone that hunted could do both.

I took my driving test in a late 70's model Chevy 4x4 with aftermarket power steering. Had a granny gear. I don't think the officer that gave me mine had ever seen anyone do that.

Every car I’ve ever owned has been a stick shift. Learned to drive on a ‘73 Olds Cutlass with 3-on-a-tree.

I’ll be honest and say I’m still learning at backing a trailer. I’ve only had a few occasions where I needed to, and some of the situations humbled me for sure.

the main reason I wont launch or load a boat at a public ramp in the summer unless its before 7am or after dark you dont really realize how large the ratio of dumbasses is until you spend 45 minutes to an hour waiting on someone to back a trailer in the water and after that the fun really starts watching them try to load it with 4 or 5 people in the water trying to guide it on. then they sit in the middle of the ramp getting it highway ready instead of pulling off under the street light out of the way. funniest thing i ever saw a guy backed his trailer up to his receiver hitch being in the water drove boat on winched it down and when he pulled off the ass of the boat was at about a 45° angle sitting 3 or more feet in the air off the ass of trailer. jetskiers are just as bad as small as a jetski is i cant for the life of me figure why someone has so many issues trailering them. it literally takes me less than 3 minutes to be in the water tied up and truck parked. getting getting loaded is even less. 50% of the time theyll say something like "you must do that alot"i usually respond with if youd pull that truck up about 15 feet you could drive up the bunks on that trailer without all those extra people standing in the water thats what they are there for.

A jet ski trailer, especially one empty is the hardest trailer in the world to back up.

Have driven them all and have taught my sons to drive stick shift. Can back a trailer pretty well also, however the short trailers behind a long truck are the toughest ones.Still have a stick shift truck, the boys havent learned the 3 on the tree but doubt they ever will. What are you helping him with on the CDL. I have a class B and now have a Class A learner permit. The part that worries me on the test is the pre trip not the driving.

Im ridin with him and teaching him tips and tricks to drivin on the road, an helpin him get the hang of a wore out transmission. We wudnt doin to much test stuff today, but ill get him schooled up on his pretrip and air brake..hes doin real good..dont really need my help but i give it wheatjer he likes it or not. My advice to you...dont put so much emphasis on videos cause alot of folks do that...study your book and learn the little things..learn air brakes inside and out..and dont just go down the truck namin junk...if its in the book..name it..know what it does..end of story..move on...they will fail a lazy man that does that crap an i dont blame them..so dont waste their time. Youll be fine..just do your part..act professional..be cordial with your pretrip an dont run knowbody over..good luck and let us know how it goes.

I can drive a stick with or without a synchronized transmission. I can also drive a stick shift and use a 2 speed rear end. That's much more of a challenge but I can do it. Our spreader truck has that and it usually takes me a few loads to get back in the practice of it. I can back a trailer too using the side mirrors on my truck, not turning around to look out the rear window. The only thing I struggle with backing up is a little pull behind sprayer for my 4 wheeler. It's about 3' long. About half the people who own a boat, can't back it up.

If you have to turn and look over your shoulder through your rear window, you need lots of practice.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Started driving a tractor around 8 or 9 (40 now), upgrading to a vehicle with a clutch was easy. About 12 years ago a bought and restored a 1972 bronco with 302 and 3 on the tree. Met a guy in Birmingham and drove it to Jasper sitting on a 5 gallon bucket. After suspension lift and 35’s it was geared to high. I had installed a 2 speed transfer case so I would start off in LOW 1st speed, the shift to high, then shift to second on the column. It worked fantastic.

Still love pulling up to the dock and watching my GOOD LOOKING wife go get the truck and trailer. She can (80%) of the time back the trailer in without having to pull forward to correct. She can also load the boat on the trailer.
