So I found this picture of me and my dad. This was my first deer I ever shot running dogs and my ole man busted a 8pt. I remember these days like no other spending time with my pops. I know some do not think highly of dog hunters but this was some of the funnest times I ever had growing up. That kind of comradery is slim these days.

Great memories for sure. I was with my dad when I got my first one over 40 years ago. He'd never killed one at that time either. Took us half a day to figure out what to do with it. Ha Ha on us. Good times.

Deer hunting was a lot more fun back in those days.

Thanks for sharing.....some of my best memories of growing up was dog hunting. One thing I remember was all of us were excited if someone killed a good buck and our standards weren't off the charts. I remember one opening weekend when I was about 15 our club killed a nice eight point and people stopped by the skinning rack just to see it. It probably didn't score 120 but we thought it was a giant.

That’s how it was at our club. I can remember everyone meeting around the skinning table because normally everyone went home with meat. It was an exiting trip for us every weekend

Killed my first on a dog drive in 77 no one cared how big they were. Everyone came to the skinning shed to see what you killed pat you on the back and say congratulations. At the end of the day every one got some meat if they wanted some

I killed my first one at age 15 in 1973....on a Dog Hunt with Big Swamp Hunting Club....Society Hill, Ala. Those Bottoms would be sooooo wet and muddy....1/2 the fun was getting in/out....Sometimes getting stuck!! Just about all the clubs ran dogs back then....it was a Southern Tradition dating Waaaaaaay Back!!
