a post in the French blank painter thread reminded me............maybe a stupid question, but do y'all have skunks down here in Central AL? I've lived here for 16yrs now and don't recall ever smelling one or seeing a dead one on the road. I'm from West TN, and we see/smell them dead on the side of the road all the time up that way.

Don’t think they’re as abundant as they used to be around here....maybe due to the coyote population.
I know I haven’t seen many in the Tuscaloosa Walker county areas

Pretty common to see them mashed on the roads down this way especially this time of year.

I can easily remember hardly ever seeing (or smelling) a skunk that wasn't dead in the road just 10 years ago. Now the bastages are stinking up everything, dang near every night and we eliminate 4 or 5 a year just in my yard.

every now and then I'll catch a whiff of one while riding around in coosa county. Never actually laid eyes on one here though.

Its funny this topic has come up. Growing up I had never seen one or smelled one however in the last two weeks I must have seen 20 dead along the highway. They must be making a come back

you sure you're not smelling someone smoking weed? I smell folks smoking it driving down the road at least once or twice a week in Tuscaloosa. And more often than not, you can tell exactly which car it's coming from.

I mean, if you wanna smoke it, then whatever..........but why are folks stupid enough to smoke it driving down the road.

central ala,
Obviously according to road kills they have 2 "ruts". One in spring and one in the fall.. I see them regular but think they are more nocturnal. The State was looking for the ones with little stripes all over them a few years ago. Not the 2 stripe down the back. I haven't seen one with all those stripes in probably 35 years.

Y'all should toss that sucker off into the sanctuary, forget the wind and just hunt. No chance a deer could smell a human over that cover scent.

Nah it's skunks. Usually in the same place where they cross the road I guess. I had enough experience in HS/college to tell the difference between some green and a pole cat grin

Two times a year up here. One was about two months ago, and the next will be in a month or two.

They smell bad. Trapped one a few years back and haven't seen one since. Though sometimes along the road see them as roadkill. rofl
