I’ve got a decent 8 showing up on camera most evenings about 30 minutes after dark. Got a good idea of his access route, so I decided to slip down here about 300yds closer to where he is coming from. Kind of a desperation play, but the rut is about to kick in and I’ve got neighbors that are like the plague on deer. Fingers crossed.

Heard one walking the bottom but I couldn't get the wind just right for where it came in at. Got busted and never got to see it.

Sat over a spot this afternoon after the rain passed through the Winston Co., saw a buck cruising, but couldn't get on him. Big body, but really couldn't tell much on the antlers, think it might have been a 6pt or forked horn.

A quail cut is a very sparse thinning that allows for natural vegetation to grow under the canopy. This improves habitat for “quail”. Like a couple of other guys have said there are very few trees per acre and mostly sage grass with rolling hills. A lot of prescribed burning is needed when your timber is like this or else you will have sweet gums and other unwanted vegetation take over.
