I was reading on another board about preferred shot placement on a deer with a rifle. I have always gone right behind the shoulder to get as many vitals as possible and was surprised to see so many guys on the other board prefer a high shoulder shot. What is your favorite point of aim on a deer?

I always shoot them right thru the shoulder bone, into their heart and lungs. I like to break down their front end so they dont run off. I hunt swamp and thicket where you can lose a deer very easily if they run off.

Tween da eyes! There ya go! True hunters aim for the head. That way, the slightest miss will break the jaw and the deer will eventually starve to death. 👍

If it's 100 yards and in, a neck shot never fails....... NEVER !! They drop and drop right there. Where the body meets the neck, center shot.
Ain't nothing a sharp knife can't fix

I don’t remember if I’ve posted this or not. I’d say 3 years ago my son shot one high shoulder and it dropped like a rock, but kept shaking its head. We stood there and watched it for 30-45 seconds and I was just about to get down and go check it out. I opened the door and took one last look before I headed down the ladder and it stood up and started running off. I hurried a shot and hit it good and killed it. When we cleaned it, his shot has clipped the top of the shoulder blade by about 1” but missed the vitals. I have no doubt we would have never found that deer if I hadn’t of put the second shot into him. I always aim for the boiler room. I understand that high shoulder will drop them, I also understand it’s outside of the vitals (can be). Imo
