I can count on one hand the number of deer I’ve gutted or field dressed. Most were big bucks and I only did so to make the deer lighter. I hang them up, get everything I need, including inner loins, without ever removing the guts. It’s so simple. Then you can discard the entire carcass, guts intact, without ever removing them and making a huge mess. ^^^^^ This I don’t gut deer either.

I killed a buck in Wilcox once, got back to friends house in Camden and he and two more were waiting on me to go out to eat. I pulled a 4" long hacksaw blade knife out of my wallet and quartered the deer on the tailgate, removed neck roast, backstops, and inner loins in about ten minutes. One of the fellas I didn't know he wouldn't allow anyone who could "outlaw clean" a deer like that anywhere near his property .I laughed, but I never did get an invite to hunt his place.....
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I gut the ones we take to processor. I enjoy gutting a deer. Got the facility to do it so that helps. The ones we donate we just load em up let the processor handle that I guess I’m weird because I enjoy gutting them also. It’s just another part of the hunting experience for me.

I boned out the last one I shot where it fell. I hadn’t gutted in years and I’ll never drag again.

The reason I gut one is my processor charges $20 for it. When I have the means to do it why pay $20 for something I been doing since I was a kid

I’ve dropped my fair share off whole but I’ve gotten to where I enjoy hanging them and deboning them myself and then I take them to a processor if I want burger or sausage. I also keep the hearts now if not destroyed, very tasty.

Are these processors that don’t charge for gutting and skinning backyard/come and go type business. I have never seen a top notch processor that did not charge a fee for dressing a deer. the one I use has been around a long time passed from father to son and is one of the cleanest processors ive ever stepped foot in.

I can clean one in about 15-20 minutes. i used to do that and just pay 1.50 a pound finished weight at processor. skin from the back legs down lop off the head remove front quarter, backstraps then slice across the belly reach in and cut ot tender loins cut around hip and pop rear quarters out of joint. whole deer in the cooler and no guts its extremely useful to know how to do if you ever get a gut shot one and dont want to deal with that mess we leave the inner tenderloins in in that case.
