I started hunting with my 2 3/4" remington 1100 smooth barrel a couple of years ago. I love it. It is just the factory bead, most basic setup you can have so i doubt i would shoot more than 50 yards. It is like shooting a deer with a golf ball. I have killed one doe and 4 pigs with it so far. I shot one of the pigs from around 30-40 yards, the slug dropped the pig and then went through the plywood on the feeder and almost went all the way through the 4x4 corner post on the feeder. I was sold on the set up as soon as i saw that. I have loved simplifying things by just ground hunting with that setup. Hunting had gotten way too complicated.

Gomer. You will be disappointed with slugs unless you get a dedicated slug gun. The best is the savage 220. Save your pennies and go this route. They are amazing. I have 2 of them and used them when I hunted in Illinois. I have shot bucks at 150 yards with them. Good luck.

Hunting brings out the worst in people.

slugs have been shot out of non-rifled barrels for a long time. I have a model 12 from the 1920's that has killed tons of deer. I have only shot 3-4 with it but it shoots good. it is a full choke and has killed many deer on the run over 100 yards away.

with rear sights I would think 100 yards with 4 inch groups would be doable.

I wouldn't go with a rifled barrel, I have one and smooth slugs to shoot in rifled barrels cost twice as much. $5 a shot gets pretty expensive to sight in for just a small advantage over rifled slugs.

Try Federal Truball slugs about $5 a box. The shoot clover leave groups at 50 yards out of my Mossberg 930 with a rifled choke tube.
