It will never catch on. Too much infrastructure already in place invested in gasoline. There are probably 10,000 gas stations alone in Alabama that would have to be converted over. It won't happen. It's like Jimmy Carter trying to force us to convert over to the metric system all over again. It will eventually happen.........but won't be widespread until you can get a legitimate 400-500 mile range on a quick charge (and by "quick", I'm talking under an hour) And batteries that don't cost $25K to replace every 3 years. Huh? Tesla batteries are thought to be good for 400,000-500,000 miles and their R&D is saying the next generation batteries will still be at 90% capacity after 1,000,000 miles. 1,000,000 mile batteryYeah, I guess my numbers were little dated...I read articles in the past that said they were only good for about 100,000. There was a time I could - and did - do that in a couple years A Tesla battery is like $10K now, too

If we're gonna make all-electric vehicles, ok fine. But why do so many electric or hybrid vehicles have to be ugly as sin?
Most are all ugly as sin. When we made the MDX in Lincoln we made a hybrid and it looked the exact same as the gas burner. Not sure why most auto manufacturers don’t go that route. Interestingly enough most all vehicles will be hybrids by 2030. The federal government has put regulations in place that require auto manufacturers to achieve 50mpg throughout the majority of their fleet. Not every vehicle has to achieve the regulation but a certain percentage of their entire fleet. That means auto manufacturers are going to be making a pile of hybrids by 2030.

Because the target market is environmental wackos and nerds and both those groups want to be "different."
