I'll be making or buying a portable shooting bench to carry to my hunting club after this deer season. I'm tired of the idiots at public ranges.it takes forever to check my targets from shooting non stop at nothing cause they didn't bring targets or I spend half my trip teaching someone shoot or sight in their rifle cause they don't care to actually learn to be a rifleman or responsible shooter.i shoot alot and test different reloads public ranges can be a pain to just go test a few new rounds without distraction

We had a guy on the club doing some dozer work over the summer and had him push up a 200 yard range at a reclaimed strip mine, best $375 we ever spent.

Didn’t you say your hunting lease was 18 minutes from your house. Why not just go sight in at your hunting land?

I had 3 different rifles to sight in and had to do it the Saturday before season, which just happens to be youth weekend, and we had kids hunting. Kinda felt like it would've been a douche move to be out there recreating the Battle of Fallujah while folks were trying to get their kids a deer.

At least you didn't run across any mud puddles. 😀

Just kidding. With the tires I have on my truck right now I have to be concerned with them also.

How much does it cost to go to the cahaba gun range? Do I need to bring my own target stands? Just moved out to alabaster and wanted to try the range tomorrow- hoping to avoid the crowds. Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

I go to the range at least a month or two before gun season opens "Styx River" Baldwin county,,,, even then it's got the shooters crowd done over run the place any time of year.... I find the WMA off highway 59 in Stockton. wide open nearly every time I go there,,, have to shoot through those steel pipes at 100yds. also have to have your hunting license or fishing license with you.

It's free. You must have a hunting license or wildlife heritage license. The have target stands in place.

I'll never forget the one year I waited until truly the last minute. I think it was Sunday of opening weekend and I show up at daybreak at the shooting range, someone had already beat me there. This ole boy was decked out in full camo already, face mask and everything, all by himself at the shooting range. His pants werent pulled quite high enough so half his butt was hanging out. I think he thought that maybe a deer would come running out in front of him on the range so he had to get ready just in case. I watched this guy miss a good size piece of plywood at 100 yards with nearly an entire box of shells. I finally ask if he needs some help and he told me he had just bought the rifle and it was "bore sighted" so it should be close to on. I told him he ought to get on paper at 40 or 50 or closer and then try at 100. He finally ran out of shells and was going back to academy to get another box before he hit the woods, still not on target at 100.

I think about that guy a lot whenever I hunt public. Wear your orange.

if you're anywhere near Huntsville it's worth the small charge to go to Bullet and Barrel. They have shooting rests inside so you don't have to lug yours from home, they have a 100 yard range (indoors) and a laser target set up at the end of it that calculates your exact grouping and adjustment. Luckily my rifle hasn't moved in 5+ years but my sons had to have a scope mounted on it so it took me all of 6 minutes to get dialed in there. Really good folks there as well. Jerrel the head gun smith is a terrific guy and former LEO. George the range master of the 100 yard is as good as they come as well. Would recommend them to anyone.

We shot yesterday at the lease. That gas line right off the dirt road is perfect and we dont have to worry about anyone else.

Gomer, 9 AM ain't early at the gun range...

I was there well before then, but was far from finished

I dare you to go back out there this Friday at about 4:30! Double dog dare.
