Alright here we go. Started hunting Monday around Meriden Kansas. It was colder than any southern boy should experience. Sat in the same place Monday through Wednesday afternoon. I saw a bunch of bucks but nothing that was big enough to merit a shot. Decided to move to a milo field with a winter wheat field beside it. As soon as I got set a small six was chasing a doe up and down a creek bed. He did this for about thirty minutes then all quiet. I had already decided to hang another stand right on the creek by a big oak that afternoon. A little later my buddies were shooting me pictures of biscuits and gravy and I was just about to leave when here comes that six point running that doe from where I was going to hang another stand. As I am watching them something catches my eye by the oak tree and it looks like a good deer. He starts to go towards the six and the doe and I decided to blow the grunt call. He stopped in his tracks and came to me on a string. He stopped at 37 yards and got that look of ready to run so I shot him straight on in the chest. He ran about 50 yards and fell over grave yard dead. The bolt went all the way through him and stopped in the right hind quarter. My biggest buck with a cross bow. 147 1/8” 9 point. Weight was 250lbs. My first trip to Kansas and I will be back next year.
