My neighbor has a pear tree that drops pears into late December. The pears are shaped more like a lemon but have the hide of a pear and the "meat" taste kinda like a pear. She doesn't know what kind it is because it was there when they bought the house 35 years ago. The tree is probably 35-40' tall and is shaped like a large Bartlett pear tree. Any ideas what kind it is? The deer absolutely love the pears!!!

May be a type of Asian pear. I have what I thought was a Bradford tree on some property I bought and had it on the list to cut down. Saw it last week and its loaded with dropping golf ball or slightly larger pears. Similar to these Asian varieties. https://www.starkbros.com/products/fruit-trees/pear-trees/chojuro-asian-pear

Trailer trash, that’s it. What do you know about them? I honestly don't know much but a buddy of mine had one or two trees in his backyard and they load up every year big time. He called them a wild pear. When I googled the term up popped several pictures of the same thing he had in the yard. I planted two in my back yard and got the first 2 fruit this year but danged if I can remember where I bought them from... maybe Sunbright Farms (online). There seems to be some indecision on the interweb between scientific names but your going in the right direction with "wild pear".

Quince? I’ve seen a tree around Samantha have pears in January. Guy who lives there called it a Quince.... Idk That’s weird. The tree I’m talking about is in Samantha very close to the Fayette county line on Morman Rd. Either of these trees off 43 on Old Fayette Rd?? We used to hunt down that way and there was one in the edge of a pasture that held pears LATE into the winter. Funny Story Roughly 20 years ago PawPaw road with me down to the club. He said we are gonna stop and get some pears. So I back the truck up to tree, Pop climbs into bed of truck and is loading us up. Old man drives up and Pop says “these are great pears for canning, don’t know who’s tree it is, you want me to get you some? Old man gets buckets out of his truck and says sure. Halfway through the process he says, y’all know I own this pasture right? I fell out 😂😂. Ended up sitting and talking for a while. Just a fun memory of my late grandfather. MawMaw canned pears from that tree many years after that day.

Thanks guys. The folks that owned the tree did say that they were good for canning. I know the deer hammered the fire out of them.

I have no idea what a quince tastes like, but they look like pears. This was close to where the lake lurleen sign/road is on 43 if I remember correctly, on the east side of the road just off the highway. Where that one sharp curve is!!! Lol I have several keifer pear trees and they “can” very well, and drop relatively late.
