What’s yalls favorite base layer clothing for Alabamas cold morning hunts? The nomad cottonwood base layers are catching my eye. Just wanted to hear other brands and opinions

Long johns, jogging pants, outer pants of choice. T shirt, sweat shirt, jacket of choice. That’s most of hunting season, in a tree stand. If really cold break out the Duxback bibbs, and big jacket.

If below 20 degrees, I wear first choice and take a sleeping bag in with me. Take off my boots and slide into that sleeping bag. Stay warm all day

Running deer dogs, pants and sweat shirt, usually briar chaps as well. No matter how cold really. You can move around deer dogging and stay warm.

It’s usually a good walk in to a climber and a 5-6 hour sit... don’t really do much moving around... I’ve had some base layers that made me sweat like crazy. And had some I felt like didn’t work at all... I’ve got some made by carbon x right now that are wore slap out, I had gotten from work. Just looking at other options before I buy some another long john type base layer

When I hunted the Wma that’s what got me into the sleeping bag deal. Walk in with pants, sweatshirt and jacket, tied the sleeping bag to my stand. Once I climbed the tree and cooled down, I’d slip in that sleeping bag and be good. Just what worked for me, without spending stupid money on clothes.

Long johns of different thickness and choose accordingly...usually jeans after that and thin insulated camo...never been cold when i chose right....feet and hands what gets me but I've learned that I can hunt in Rocky work boots with toe warmer and be fine in 15 degree for a few hours...my face don't bother me but ears do...its gotta be cold to cover my ears tho cuz I can't hear for chit

Get you some merino wool base layers and then use a decent fleece mid layer and you should be good to go . The Merino wool will still retain heat even when wet and it wicks away moisture really well. The added benefit is its naturally antimicrobial and you can sweat like crazy and it still won't smell bad. I usually hunt 10 days or more in mine before washing.

My first rule is stay away from cotton. Cabela's ecwcs work pretty well. I try to do a few thin layers instead one or two thick ones. Maybe this year I'll spend the money on a good Merino wool set, but my system is pretty good but I still get cold feet if it's below freezing on long sits. Tried everything in every combination I can think of and read but eventually the dang cold is gonna set into my toes.

Never liked a base layer and shoes, boots that can breathe work best for my feets.

I buy this brand from cosco. I work out side everyday. Theses are great for extreme cold days and the days that warm up from 20degree mornings to 60degree afternoons. I hate wearing bibs and big jackets so these are a win for me

Wool is useless as a baselayer if worn for warm for me and doesn’t dry very fast. You should look at zip off baselayers for your application.

30s= heavyweight merino base top and bottom, bibs and jacket.
20s= double layer heavyweight merino top, bibs and jacket
Teens= I'm probably not hunting

Walking in I wear a lightweight merino shirt with a zipper. If it's a really cold walk in I'll wear my wool scarf and hat, too. Wearing only the lightweight top (with zipper!) walking in and out is key to temperature regulation.

Minus 33 merino is the best I've ever used.

100% merino wool 400 heavyweight base layer from Woolx is the best I could find. Its higher than the other stuff because it's worth it.
