My issue when it comes to cartridges of choice has never been with the cartridge itself. My issue stems from the followers of a few cartridges out there.

Honestly no offense to anyone but the list is as follows and the reasons:
6.5 Creedmoor. "You can kill anything, anywhere, anytime with the Creed" "It's better/different that all the other short action 6.5's on the market" etc. And they are all ghey.

.270 Win. Frankly it's a perfect small to medium game cartridge but I have issues with it because of a few individuals I have hunted with in the past. They would scream that the .270 was the best deer cartridge out there yet I found myself constantly tracking deer that were shot in right places as well as shots to the wrong parts of the deer for these guys.

7mm Rem Mag. I probably hate these guys the most. "You can hit them in the foot at 600 yards and it will turn them for a flip" or something along those lines. It's a fine round that will certainly do the trick but I don't like it. I do like a 28 Nosler and I realize that it's basically the same thing but in my mind one works and the other doesn't. (I did shoot a bunch of critters in Africa last October with a borrowed 7mm Rem Mag it worked but I hated every minute of it. laugh

.308 Win. It certainly is an awesome well rounded cartridge but there are too many folks that say if it's good enough for the military it's good enough for a deer. While I agree with that comment to some extent I still don't like the round.

I realize that the reasons above are silly but y'all that LOVE those rounds made me this way. It's y'all's fault. wink

I like to make fun of the 6.5CM just because of the ridiculously over the top marketing hype and lofty claims. I'm sure it is a fine cartridge but people act like it is superior to every other cartridge ever made. IMO it is not. Based on the ballistics it is underpowered for my personal preferences.

You ain't hunting if you don't have super long bullets with insanely high BC to buck that wind for that 100 yard shot. Somebody pass me a flat brimmed hat, bro.

The best and most important cartridges are the ones that will be the most plentiful and easiest to find when the End of the World begins.

That and the 270 Win are my personal favorites. 257 Roy is expensive to shoot though. Probably a good thing for barrel life.

Some people will brag on a 26 Nosler while calling the 6.5 creedmoor gay. Why...? The 26 Nosler doesn’t do anything better than a 264 win mag (except belted case). The 6.5 Creedmoor is more efficient than a 260. it isn’t any faster than a .260 Remington. Actually it’s about 2-4% slower. But it was designed with its sole purpose at a TARGET cartridge. This is due to a slightly shorter case which allows one to seat those long bullets reducing jump to the lands. Long 6.5mm bullets are superior to most other calibers, when recoil is taken into consideration. The very high BC’s result in less wind drift and bullet drop. This is why you see most competitive shooters with some flavor of 6mm or 6.5mm.

For hunting purposes, 90% of people will not see the advantages. But for those shooting 500 yard + competitions it can be the difference between winning and losing.

I just don’t understand how people turn their noses up at 1 specific cartridge and hunt with a gun/cartridge that started life as a wildcat. 22-250, 257 Roberts, 338 federal, 338-06, 35 Whelen, 7-08, 270, 6.5/284, 30-06, etc, etc were ALL wildcat cartridges in the beginning. Yep even the good ol 30-06. It was based of the 30-03 cartridge.

Trying to get better results, accuracy, terminal ballistics, etc is a GOOD thing. It’s also the same reason we shoot cartridges today vs muzzle loaders of the 1800s.

Just so I can get some folks riled up, which is easy to do with the Gheymoor crowd. 😀😀

Personally, I prefer the classics and oddball stuff and the latest, greatest flash in the pan cartridge just doesn't impress me because it's does the same thing ballistically as another cartridge has been doing for 50-100 years. So what if it fits into an action that's 3/4" shorter. I don't shoot competition, just because I enjoy it. I may buy a Creed one day, or I may not, but I'm not looking to buy one just because it's the latest fad. I would rather have a 260 Remington or even better, a 260 AI.

Probably cause the guys buying the creeds are the "look at me" types who follow all the hype and wanna be cool. Same guys who have $400 ice chests. I have shot 30:06 and .270's my whole career no complaints with either.

None of the new cartridges offer any thing new. They’ll all kill and hardly any of y’all are shooting past 300 yards

I’m a lineage freak in my modern cartridge sporting endeavor. The modern cartridge got its start with the 44 Russian and Paul Mauser designed the 30 cal first. Worked then, works now.

We pretty much owe everything to Mauser, Gorloff, Browning, and a few others from the 1800’s and nothing has significantly changed since.

It doesn’t bother me what others hate. I’m gonna use what I like. If young billy sold his 300wby that he couldn’t handle and learned to shoot a 6.5c accurately than good for him.

Rifle cartridge selection may just be the most inconsequential thing in deer hunting.

Well, I guess I'm a ghey, look at me type that buys into the hype. I have - well until recently had - 2 rifles in 6.5 CM.

I bought the first one because I wanted to see what it was about. At 720 yards it was a lot more efficient than my .308.

The second I bought because I like the 6.5 caliber and hunting ammo for the .260 just wasn't as easy to find and when you did find it, it was higher than a giraffe's ass.

My real "pet" round though is 7-08. Don't ask me why though, other than time and paper, I've never killed anything with it.

When I hunt, I usually grab a .30 something. I plan to change that this year though. I'll grab my flat billed hat, and my $400.00 cooler and my 6.5CM and head out...

Oh, wait, I can't do that. I only have a 6.5CM and a $40.00 igloo.

Don't own a flat billed hat, skinny jeans or crocs either.

Personally, I don't give a rip what a man/woman shoots, as long as he/she can shoot it accurately enough to make good clean shots and it has enough juice to do the job.

I feel like we owe it to game we shoot to make clean kills.
