We are going to replace some wore out carpet in the den and the living room with vinyl flooring. The one we like best in a laminate flooring by Allen-Roth, but it is not rated as water proof. Would you hesitate to use it? We do have a house dog, but it is rare that she will piddle on the floor.

vinyl & laminate are 2 different beasts - see above. having said that, both are very durable; i put laminate in my whole house 15 years ago & love it; a bit of a b*tch to keep the shine on it, but it has held up very well ... we did install vinyl in our bathrooms

laminate will be fine as long as it isnt exposed to water like in a bath, laundry or kitchen. when you mop it just damp mop it dont get it soaking wet or it will swell and buckle at the joints.

I'm going through flooring right now.

LVP seems like the perfect flooring from what I am finding. Durable, easy to own, waterproof and affordable.

I put down luxury vinyl plank downstairs and laminate upstairs last year. I really like the laminate better as long as there's not a water exposure. The laminate locks better and the vinyl tends to not lay flat at the edges. Laminate was real cheap at home depot and looks great.

We looked at all of that but ended up going with solid bamboo strand that was 1/2" thick and snapped together like laminate. It was less than $3 a square foot. Pretty easy to DIY.

It has held up extremely well. I've stayed in some hotels that had the vinyl plank and was not impressed at all.

We have this throughout the house in Trussville and in the lofts at the cabin. We got it on sale and it was less than $3 S.F. Great stuff, maintains the finish, extremely durable.

Glue down lvp is the way to go. We put it in every rental house we remodel. Easy to lay and very forgiving on the installer

Why are you going with glue as opposed to floating?

We put down some beautiful vinyl plank flooring in our new cabin. Progen stokes range dusk, is what it is called. You can see the big rip saw marks on the vinyl flooring. One of my favorite things about the house. Everyone who see's it raves about it. Ours is a floating vinyl and is waterproof. FYI, be careful getting flooring from knock off places, sometimes you get what you pay for. This was about $4.50 sq/ft., you can go cheaper or more expensive.

What do you do in older houses with particle board over layment that was popular in the early 80's. I am remodeling a rental now that has the particle board over 1/2" plywood. We have been tearing it up and putting down new plywood then backerboard and ceramic in the high traffic areas but I was considering Vinyl plank in this one as the grouting ceramic has got to where it destroys my hands.

Have the vinyl in our place and love it. Definitely the way to go.

Laminate flooring is obsolete. lvp is the way to go.less transitions are needed ,doesn’t sound hollow and it looks more realistic . Don’t worry about it not saying it’s waterproof. The occasional pet accident or spilled drink won’t get through the floor but if you have a plumbing failure of flooding you will need to remove the flooring in the area to avoid a mold problem. With any floating floor the water can get under it around the perimeter . Don’t put it in a bathroom or laundry room . Allen Roth makes some really nice lvp. IMO the destressed or weathered look floors look more realistic than the solid brown floors. Make sure yo purchase a floor with a pad attached and it needs to be around 3/16” thick or slightly thicker.

I wouldn't use a laminate, period. Vinyl plank is the way to go

I'd use vinyl as well...in my wife's biz we put laminate in one store and vinyl in another and the laminate had a lot more wear with less traffic a lot earlier than the vinyl
