Thinking about buying a new four wheeler. I have a1988 Honda that I have had since well, 1988. I don’t have any experience with any other make or any experience with the newer models. I have been looking at the Honda FourTrax 500 Forman and the Polaris Sportman. Prices are comparable. Any advice or opinions anyone can give would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Polaris should never ever be mentioned in the same sentence with Honda.

You are a previous Honda owner and are asking about a Polaris?

Not sure what gives there.

Stick with Honda.

Anytime you can get nearly 30 years of service out of a vehicle, I'd consider it pretty reliable. Honda is the right choice

I wouldn’t own a Polaris if you chased me down and beat me to take it. Honda.

I personally think they all make good reliable machines kinda like cars these days they will all last 250k-300k miles if maintained. Whatever you decide on just make sure it has 4 whell independent suspension, no rear straight axles.

Honda unless you enjoy replacing frame bushings every couple years. i have not seen one Polaris that did not need new control arm bushings every 2 or 3 years especially the ones with IRS the rear end torque tries to twist the arms and literally eats them away. we have 20 year old hondas that have never needed work except for brakes, fluid changes, and valve/clutch adjustments that can be done in the driveway DIY in an hour or 2. Pay more now or pay more later and later is usually at the most inconvenient time.

I'd have to be getting a great deal to consider the Polaris over the Honda

I actually just went through this and ended up buying a Polaris. I've always been a Honda guy and was dead set on another one. I was headed over to Corinth to buy one from those guys and Shoals outdoors had some killer deals on Polaris that I wanted to check out. For what I got on the Polaris I just couldn't justify the Honda. Polaris has made a lot of improvements over the last 7 years that they were pretty open about plus they're made in America. I also got an 84 month warranty that covers everything including axles and bearings on a 570 Outdoorsman. All of that for cheaper than what a base Honda 420 would have been. I've had it about 5 months so far I guess and I couldn't be happier with the Polaris.

IMO If you are buying brand new, its not about brand, its about the dealer and what they will warranty.

I love the rut. The woods are like a bunch of roided up meatheads fighting over a girl.

Honda and Polaris on totally opposite ends of the spectrum. Hondas are bulletproof. There is a reason you can find cheap deals on Polaris and not on Hondas. Good thing you got the warranty with that thing.
