Shot my grandads 17 today in a pinch at his house, cuz that was closest gun,it took a second for me to put one in chamber...thats one neat lil gun after u get used to it. Question is why don't they make it in larger calibers?

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There are a few straight bolt actions on the market but all are European manufacturers I believe. If you look at the design of a standard bolt action, the bolt is locked in place with 1-3 locking lugs PLUS a cut out in the action for the bolt handle itself. You would not want a T-Bolt in a .300win mag and the locking lugs fail. There would be nothing to keep the bolt in the gun

Probably the best on the market is the Blaser R8. Straight pull bolt that barrels can be easily swapped for. Pretty much everything from 204 Ruger to 500 Jeffery. For some reason straight pulls have never been popular in the US. The Blaser is a fine rifle, it's just butt ugly in my humble opinion.

Straight pull has nothing to do with caliber changes, etc....that’s a function of the design using a barrel extension, head spaced commonly with the bolt, and the receiver just being a carrier for both. Straight pull has a few more moving parts than a turn bolt action, and it’s hard for it to get enough mechanical leverage to unlock a traditional 2-3 lug design, so the bolt designs have a lot of small lugs, or multiple receiver lugs, etc.
