Since we're getting cranked up with bow season and rifle is just around the corner I wanted to take a second to re-cage everyone's safety gyro...don't get complacent this year!

I just read on another forum where a young, healthy, fit man died due to a ladder stand mishap. Personally, I think ladder stands are some of the most dangerous stands there are during the setup and removal process.

Before leaving terra firma, take a second and check your harness, climbing method(s), etc. Not to be morbid, but back in the 'Corps I always asked myself while walking to my aircraft, "is this the day I ball one up?" and went through a mental checklist. I do the same before climbing. Sanity check it.

Remember, steel rusts, ropes get old, and you're another year older since last year.

Good luck and happy hunting to you all. I'll be in the woods this afternoon! Hunt safe!
