It amazes me that nobody has designed a plug and go ceiling fan yet. Its always an annoying job that makes your elbows feel like rubber when your done.

One day i was changing one out in a house i was flipping. I hit the breaker, tested the wire, and started working. Somebody had run the fan and the light to a different breaker. That’s not the only time to be hit with 110, but you can bet I always test every wire now. Never assume:

It's best to hook the fan to the constant hot and the switch leg to the light. This will prolong the fan motor, and is the proper way to install it.

They come with a balancing kit but I won’t pretend to know how to install it.

Put up one recently and after a bit the bulb would flash. I thought it was a loose wire. Took the bastage down only to find out it was a bad bulb.

Look on the bright side, at least you are alive. We used to go to church with a couple and he was wiring a ceiling fan, got electrocuted and died. I don't think it gets more serious than that. Left behind two young daughters and a good lookin' old lady that ended up marrying another dude.

So count your blessings.

Did the fan come with the weights for the blades?
