Ballistics nerd here, thought somebody might be interested to see the terminal effects of Sierra's new polymer-tipped bullet since there isn't a whole lot of information out there, especially when it comes to terminal effect. Used the .30 cal 165 gr in a .308 Win. MV was just shy of 2700 fps with IMR-4895. Can't remember the charge weight, it's in my recipe book if anyone is interested.

95 lb doe shot broadside, high shoulder at around 100 yds. Here is the exit wound and a look inside the chest cavity. I had already pulled the heart and about half the lung tissue out. Heart wasn't hit, but ascending aorta was trashed and, as you can see, the lungs were gelatinized nicely. I normally take heart shots, but took a high shoulder shot here hoping to get a drop because she was at the end of the greenfield and beyond it is a hellacious ravine. I think that shot placement combined with the characteristics of the polymer-tipped GameChanger produced an immobilizing hit, something I don't normally get taking heart shots with 150 gr GameKings and CoreLokts.

Good performance. Looks similar to what I have seen over the years from the Speer 165 BTSP in both .308 and .30-06.

Good info to have, thanks!

I’ve wondered about those and how they’d perform. Been shooting 165 SGK’s for years . Thanks for the post and pics
