I’ve had this gun since I was a kid. 26” IC barrel, killed a truck load of rabbits and doves with it over the years. Got to jamming bad this year, cleaned twice still the same thing. Put some oil on the spring at the forearm, started cycling like a new one. What has me puzzled, I’ve never oiled it, as it says not to on the forearm. Always tried to keep it clean, what changed??

Ever taken the buttstock off and cleaned/inspected the action spring?
It’s probably due a new one, anyway. You can also wear out friction pieces on long recoil guns....or, actually, they wear the grooves down until they start causing too much resistance and oiling will make them work, but you’re likely then beating up your receiver.

Cleaning the action tube and replacing springs and rings is a common ‘tune up’ for older/shot a LOT A5s I deal with. Same dif on a Franchi AL.

I’d say this gun has less than 1500 rounds down it. But I’ll check that action spring, as I’ve never cleaned it, but i have taken the trigger out and cleaned it the best I saw fit.

In that case, wear shouldn’t be an issue.....but an action spring can (sometimes) lose force over time sitting, as well. Could just be some grit/lint/etc got in there, too.....from cleaning the receiver and storing butt down, storage itself, or hunting. Worth a look to rule out.

Spray the mag tube down with brake cleaner to get the oil off as well as the inside of the friction ring.

That is the dampening system the gun uses to prevent beating itself up when cycling.

If it started working after reducing friction, you have something else gumming up the action.

There may be dirt in the action spring tube or the whole thing just needs a good bath!! grin

May be, I used Remington Shotgun cleaner, which reminds me of a “brake cleaner”. But it’s beat down a lot of briars rabbit hunting, it’s just always been so light I toted it a lot. I’ll break it back down again and try and clean it better. Thanks for yalls input

If it's anything like mine and I have the same gun..I had issues with mine not cycling certain shell due to gas rings being turned the wrong way..apparently..one way is for light loads and the other way is for hotter high powered loads...Soo when I stopped shooting good shells and started Poppin in cheap light dove loads...it wouldn't cycle them. I'm not a gun Smith but all this was told to me by the feller who swapped mine around and it's been shooting fast as I can pull the trigger ever since

Yeah you have to swap things around to increase or decrease the “braking” force applied by the friction rings.

Mine has always cycled everything I threw in it. I bought mine from a rabbit hunter in Louisiana probably 15 years ago. It's a great scatter gun, and so light it kicks more than any 12 GA I own. Still love shooting it.

I've contributed nothing to the conversation, but figured I better weigh in anyway!
