I believe in the power of prayer. I know that many times prayer requests for accidents, deaths, surgery, etc are asked for on this forum often. This is a different sort of request. I'm asking for prayer to help me overcome an unhealthy addiction.
I may or may not have one of the most addictive personalities on this website. I decided this morning that I'm going to stop drinking Diet Mt Dew. I've decided it's causing some health issues that keep popping up, or at least that if I stop drinking it, I can rule out whether it is or is not what's causing the issues. I started drinking Diet Dew at breakfast 32 years ago. A 16 ounce DMD cost $0.29 back in those days. I've been drinking 3-5, 20 ounce DMD's per day for years. I drank one this morning and decided it was my last one. I kicked the carb addiction with much prayer and hard headedness and I know I can kick this too. I would seriously appreciate any prayers you guys would offer up. Thanks.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Not that I'm accusing you personally, Fur, but a lack of discipline in one area of life usually indicates a lack in other areas, as well. Ive lived it. Praying for you now and let us know how you are doing.

If u can stop drinking them for 2 months, it’s like trying to drink maple syrup if you try to start back. I was on diet Dr Pepper. I attempted to drink one last week and got about 1/3 down and threw it away. I quit dipping cold turkey and diet Dr Pepper as well. It’s all a mindset. I literally trash talked myself. Weird I know but it works!! Good luck buddy!!

Not an easy thing to do Fur, but I am doing the same thing and understand the struggle. Keep up the good work!

Brad, that was my favorite non-alcoholic drink for years. You can kick it!
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Hey buddy you can do it. Lately I have started drinking a Diet Monster everyday and I know they aren't good for me and I need to stop also. So I will take this road with you and I'll stop the Monsters!

As has already been said “ once you’re off of them for a while they won’t taste the same” I quit drinking all sodas several years ago and have tasted them since. I can’t understand how I ever liked those things now. You can do it Prayer sent

Thanks guys. I really appreciate it.
I'm going to drink a cup of coffee in the morning and probably one after lunch to keep from having caffeine withdrawals. It isn't the caffeine I'm wanting to quit or feel like I need to quit, it's the Aspartame. I've probably ingested a ton of that stuff in my lifetime.

Good to hear Brad. After about 40-45 years of drinking from 4-10 assorted Cokes, Mt. Dews, Dr. Peppers, Sprites, etc. daily and none of them diet, I stopped drinking any carbonated drinks about 4 years ago. As someone else mentioned, the sudden caffeine drop was a bit of a shock, but I soon increased my coffee intake to replace the caffeine. Not necessarily a good plan. The Advil seems like a much better way to get over the caffeine habit or addiction whichever it may be. Other than that, giving them up was a breeze. I now drink almost exclusively water and have recently kicked the carb addiction myself. I'm 5 or 6 weeks into the low carb diet, have dropped 24 lbs and I am starting to feel much better. Dropping the Dews will only be a problem if you let it. Congrats and I will add that into my evening prayer for a while.
