Just bought my first bottle. I'm a bourbon guy but I want to see what all the fuss is about. I took a recommendation and started with Dewars White label. I know it's a blended which are not as good as single malts. Suggestions?

Aberlour 18 year, macallon 15 year, a couple cheaper that aren’t bad Glenlivet 12 year, and Aberlour 12 year. If I’m going to drink a blend I do Chivas Regal or Johnny Walker Red.

I’m a Glennfiddich guy. So many other scotches taste like warm peat moss dipped in mule piss. If you want a special treat try the Glennfiddich 14yr old Bourbon Barrel Reserve. Scotch purists would turn their nose up at it but it’s a wonderful liquor nonetheless.

Probably the only type of alcohol I could never develop taste for. I haven't been able to do it either. Choked down the last bottle, barely. Tasted like a burnt forest floor IMO.

dude you opened a can when you ask about scotch. beware Laphroaig as a beginner, it might turn you off. Aberlour is a favorite. there are so many rabbit holes you can go down asking someone about scotch. if you're just beginning enjoying Scotch, start at the benchmark, The Glenlivet is the Scotch that pretty much everything is compared to..it's either better than Glenlivet or it's not as good... Navy had me serving in several places around Europe..thats where I got my education. Those blokes know their scotch. Good advice.

Just bought my first bottle. I'm a bourbon guy but I want to see what all the fuss is about. I took a recommendation and started with Dewars White label. I know it's a blended which are not as good as single malts. Suggestions? I like bourbon too but started out with single malt. Actually went on the distillery tour. Great question and you have been given some excellent recommendations by AL deer brethren! I'm truly impressed. You guys have excellent taste in single malt. I agree to be careful with Lagavulin 16 and Laphroig starting out as they're peaty with a phenol taste that might turn you off to single malt completely. 12 year old Glennfiddich, Glenmorangie, & Glenlivet are all great starters on rocks with a splash and let it sit and meld for a few minutes. Glenfarclas 12 year old is good and can be found at total wine. Plus all the wonderful recommendations already made. Enjoy tasting and hope you come to like single malt.
