If planting clovers only in a plot, I have been discing, then spreading the seed, and then dragging a harrow.

I have read that you don't need to cover clover up at all, just spread it and walk.

Can anyone confirm?

I always spread the seed blend of my choice and lightly disk over it then I top it with clover and do nothing else. I always have plenty of clover in my plots. I never plant just clover .

I always top sow my clover right before a rain. If you're going clover only, make dang sure the ph is right and to be honest, based on my experience, you're planting your clover plot for next year if you plant it this fall.

Mine didnt grow much the first fall. The next spring it was gorgeous. Every fall since it has gotten up about 6-8inches and sat there all winter then in the spring it takes off again. I have never fertalized it. I bushhog once after it seeds out late spring then again when the weeds and grass stops growing in the fall to let the clover get some light. Deer use it all winter. I did prepair the soil and disked it in lightly when I planted but it probably would have came up fine had I sowed it ahead of a good rain and not disked it in.

Clover planted deeper than 1/4" wont sprout. The smaller the seed, the less energy that seed has to push thru the soil. Annual clovers do well in the fall, perrenials do well the following spring. I don't like planting just one thing, a mixture is better for the deer and the soil. I never disk or drag over clover.

Thanks for the feedback. I might go ahead and put some cereal rye in the ground and cover it, and then top sow the clover right before it rains. That was the plot will be usable this deer season, and hopefully the clover will be kicking for turkeys by spring.
