Depends on what customer wants. But I'd go Birch & Basswood for paint.....

What does it matter if you are painting? Don't really matter. May be difference in price though.

What does it matter if you are painting? I agree. Material isn’t as important as construction.

Poplar is what I see and use in painted cabinets. We rarely ever use Poplar anymore. We did do a decent size job last year in Poplar (Customer Provided Wood) and it turned out really nice, it was a natural job. I like Natural or Stain i hate painted Cabinets lol

What does it matter if you are painting? I agree. Material isn’t as important as construction. Oak , especially red is heavy grained . Clear , cabinet grade oak , especially white, is mighty expensive wood to cover up with paint. I'd lean toward properly dried and stabilized Cabinet grade poplar.

Poplar and maple are good choices for painted cabinets because they will show little to no grain and paint nice and smooth. They also are less prone to shrinkage than pine, which I would not use for painted. Definitely don't use oak for painted as the grain will be prominent.

I’d build pine if I was painting them pine has alot of knots in it and they will seep resin out slowly showing thru the paint. as long as its a hardwood it doesnt really matter its gonna be painted poplar or maple are good skim them over with gap filler if needed, sand, prime, sand and spray with lacquer they will look amazing

But most Custom Cabinet Shops still prefer to use MDF for Door Panels and finished ends when being painted...
