Your numbers sound great. But fact of the matter is I did too grow up in good dove numbers. I don’t want my shoulder going thru that punishment when I can accomplish same numbers with zero punishment

Reno, you did right going with the 20. I've probably shot a semi-trailer load of doves over the years with 20's. To me a 20 is the perfect dove and quail gun. I honestly cannot remember the last time I shot birds with a 12 ga. A 12 guage for doves and quail is complete overkill. If factory shells werent so hard to find for it, I wouldnt mind going with a 28 like .257 said. I shot quail one time over at a plantation in south GA with a Ruger Red Label 28 gauge with the heavy engraving and unreal wood and that was the sweetest pointing and shooting little shotgun I've ever had in my hands.

I shoot a Remington 1100 LT-20 with fixed full choke, I started with a 12 modified. Got to be a decent shot and swapped to a 20. I kill just as well and just as far as I did with the 12.

1100 FPS is 1100 FPS, and #8 shot is #8 shot, don’t matter if it’s 7/8 oz or 1/8 oz. just my thoughts. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Nice gun! A 20 gauge will certainly kill doves efficiently and effectively. I use a 12 with 1 1/4 oz of shot traveling at 1330 fps because I want to kill a limit and get off the field. My goal is not simply a limit on the opener. I want to kill limits throughout the season. The extra shot and velocity IMHO lets me shoot a limit quicker. Doves that feed unmolested keep using the field. The next weekend is when you see the difference.

This I agree with! When you can put 10 to 12 hunters in a field at 2:30 and everyone is out with a limit by 4 your birds can come in and feed before dark and you're good to go the next weekend.
