What about if you go into a hunting place early and come sun up there is corn you didn't even know was there and you don't have the permit? This situation is almost as if they want everyone to buy it to avoid a ticket. I hold lifetime as well. I also don't hunt over bait. I have hunted in Texas for many years where it has been legal for many years and nobody is killing the monsters you see in magazines and on TV over bait either. I wish they did not legalize it. It will change the face of hunting in Alabama forever. I am teaching my son to hunt. What will he think when his friends are hunting that way and we are not? What's my answer? If you like to hunt that way I have no issue with that. To each his own. I just think it will cause more problems than help the hunting. I do believe if you are hunting property where you almost never see deer it could for sure make sense. I am just against it. 15 bucks or not.

This. Seems pretty simple to me. If anyone is deeply offended at the 15 dollar charge then all you have to do is not put out any corn and then not buy the permit. How hard is it to "NOT" do something.

If a person under 16 has to buy the bait permit that means they would be held responsible to pay a ticket if caught hunting over bait without it, correct? Would the parent of the (say a 4 year old) child have to pay the ticket for them? Seeing that State recognizes an under 16 year old to hold a permit then the said 4 year old would get the ticket and would the parent not be responsible for paying it? This could become a case, but it's more hypothetical right now than anything. I would like to see a game warden actually give a child a ticket like this.

Last time I checked, you weren't being forced to buy this baiting permit unless you use bait.

Last time I checked, no one was forcing you to buy gas. So, how do you feel about it.

Mic drop

No that isn't a fricking mic drop. It's a ridiculous comparison.

Nobody has to even hunt at all. In this day and age it's a recreation not something any of us have to do in order to survive. And you certainly don't have to use bait if you choose to hunt.

Gas on the other hand is a necessity. The vast majority of people in this state do not live in a place where it is feasible to use some alternative means of transportation to get to work. That means owning a car or truck is a necessity and they run on gas. Even if you lived in a place where you could catch a bus or call a cab the last time I checked those bast@#$s run on gas or fuel as well and therefore their rates would be affected by increases in gas prices.

It'll get to the point where you'll need 10 licenses to shoot a deer and there will still be guys telling everyone quit complaining.

They could close down all the wmas and make deer hunting illegal and there'd still be guys saying be thankful you ever got to go.

Well in my defense it's hard to "GET" something that makes no sense. Are you being forced to purchase this permit? Are you being forced to hunt over corn? What about having this new "OPTION" available to you is preventing you from skipping it and just hunting the same way that you always have?

It’s not about the damn fifteen dollars. It’s about the fact that our state has become so destitute for money that we tax our youth, disabled veterans and our elderly plus change the rules for lifetime license holders. How many of y’all have stopped to think that many of hunters don’t have the capability to scout where to hang stands, cut shooting lanes, climb a tree and hang lock ons. But can still manage to get in a shooting house on a green field. So towards the end of the season they ain’t seeing any deer and get frustrated with it. Decide to throw out some corn on the field to try and pull some deer in it. But yet has to pay a tax to be able to do so even though it’s completely legal. These elderly folks have already paid into the tax machine all of their lives but now that they are retired the government still needs more. How about a disabled veteran that is already sacrificed a body part for our country but we still need more. Ridiculous is what it is. I’ll gladly pay more so these folks don’t have to pay anything. After all haven’t they already paid enough?

I agree with Leroy, plus corn is a great way to SEE deer. You don’t even have to shoot one, but for kids, seeing deer will keep them coming back. There are lots of places in Bama where you probably won’t see a deer without corn, because there aren’t many deer there.

I think any deer with half of brain will go nocturnal. And the ones in daylight will be yearlings.

Think about it. If you have corn laying aroung non stop....why go eat in daylight when folks are stirring around?

Well when you really think about it, how is it any different than acorns laying around, or corn from a corn field, or beans, or grass in a greenfield? Other than you might leave scent?

It’s just a matter of time before there’s more “ privileged taxes “ on more of our constitutional rights. I’m probably one of ten members on here that knows how badly underfunded DCNR is. But this isn’t the right way to get more money.
