There was a huge ruling against J & J for half billion dollars.
Why aren’t people going after the Drs that over prescribe these meds ? Can’t help but think this law suit will result in companies refusing to make any opioid pain meds for fear of being sued.

Look up the sackler family role in this along with the role that Afghanistan plays in supplying these drugs. Lots of levels and money to be made regardless of the morality most think everyone else abides by, lot of people value money and have not morals.

I understand that there are people who need pain meds and I also understand there are Drs who over prescribe them. I was almost a victim of an over zealous pain Dr. had me on 5 different pain meds at once. I didn’t know which emotion was going to hit at any given moment. I would cry, be angry, be happy, be stoic and many other ways. This went on for 6 weeks until I realized what was happening and I flushed them all. I’ve dealt with pain daily for years now and refuse to take anything because of the experience I had. I just don’t know who should be held accountable but lean towards the Drs because people can’t get them without a prescription. I do know if companies quit making them people will suffer

The Dr's get paid for writing scrips. Many of them also have ownership in a pharmacy that they refer you too for a (discount) . It's all about $$$$
Don't blame me for your bad decision-

The Dr's get paid for writing scrips. Many of them also have ownership in a pharmacy that they refer you too for a (discount) . It's all about $$$$ This is incorrect and could not be farther from the truth. Dr's get bonuses on amount of patients seen, not prescriptions written. Due to the government stepping in. Big Pharma is very limited on the "prizes" they give out for you prescribing their meds. Kick backs for prescribing is essentially non-existent now. MD's/PA's/NP's may get a free meal at a nice restaurant to hear a lecture about the latest and greatest drug, but that is about as far as it will go. As far as ownership in a pharmacy.....there may be few left out there, but most doctors do not even own their practice anymore. Due to the fact of the governmental red tape along with insurance companies making you jump through hoops in order to get paid, it's not worth the headache of dealing with. This plays right into our governments hands of socialized medicine and controlling one more aspect of our lives. There are a few bad apples out there, and someone always chasing the almighty dollar. The FDA has done a good job of cracking down on these "Pill-Mills" for pain meds, but it is a process to get it stopped. You're affecting someones lively hood and they want to make sure that they have their duck's in a row before you cut some one off at the knees.

You can blame a lot of this on JCAHO, joint commission on accreditation, they tell hospitals how to run their business and if you don’t do what they say then you lose Medicare and if you lose Medicare the rest of the insurances will drop you as well. About 20 or so years ago they decided that pain was the 5th vital sign and that we in medicine was not sufficiently addressing the pain needs of our pts so that guy in bed 7 eating a sandwich and soda with pain 10/10 had to be medicated with pain medicine. They decided that pain was whatever the patient said it was. Then they started penalizing hospitals if pain was addressed. We in medicine play a big role because we allowed this to happen but the origins come from this independent organization that makes its own rules and holds the power to shut down a hospital. What happens in the hospitals trickles out to private practice eventually.
Finally deported myself from the peoples republik of Kaliforkistan.

Just like allergy and sinus meds, the abusers have made it hard for the people who realy need it. Why would you sue a dr for your addiction? Or a manufacturer for that matter. This. However, unlike allergy meds, the opioids were over prescribed. And the majority of patients were not initially warned about their addictive properties and how they become less effective with long term use. Still I think it's absurd to blame a doctor or a company for YOUR irresponsible behavior. As a patient it's your responsibility to research and learn about your illness and the treatment.

My wife has a very bad back and has had pain for close to 40 years. She has had 3 surgeries, multiple injections and all kinds of prescription pain medicine. There is no simple relief it seems. One thing we have noticed is that doctors will ask "what is your pain level today", and that is impossible to answer. One pain management doctor ask her on a bad day what her pain level was and she said 10. He said that was impossible, if she was a10 pain level it should be like having your skin peeled off and a hot fire applied. I've always thought that pain scale was a joke. Some people have a higher tolerance than others. I've had two doctors look at my knee problems and ask how in the world I'm even walking. There are ways to actually measure pain. Asking someone is not an accurate measure.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

Doctors are being prosecuted is by the feds for over prescribing opioids. There have been probably a dozen in the northern district of Alabama in the last couple of years. Been several down this way also. Still amazes me that people put that much time, money in building a career only to flush it down the toilet.

But this wont happen because there is way too much money in keeping our country addicted to prescription meds. You are exactly right though. Just imagine how much better off our country would be if the opium poppy suddenly went extinct. No more addiction to opiods, no more overdoses. The pharm companies would have to come up with a pain pill that actually helps. It would certainly be a better day.

If there is a demand for it it will find it's way here no matter what
