The one in Huntsville opened today. Only costs me $152 to get back out the front door. It was a busy place.

The popcorn is great, you can get extra and throw in the garden to kill the weeds.

$8.00-10.00 per hour gets $8.00-10.00 type work.
Of course, there are exceptions to this to a certain degree but low pay=low expectations.

How the one in Shelby county hasn’t, I’ll never know. I bought $60,000 +\- worth of lumber for several years from them and have no idea why I put up with them and gave them my money. It was weekly that I had issues with an order. Also, you’d think I walked in with a damn calculus problem when I paid my bills. It’d take 30 minutes for them comprehend that I was there to pay the bill that was on that computer screen, minus the (however many) boards that I returned.
I could’ve hired 3 12 year olds and ran that place better.

I wish our ACE hardware hadn’t closed in town. Now they’d knock you down to help you.

I miss small town local hardware stores, with bins full of nails, nuts, bolts, and whatever else you needed. You didn’t get screws or nails by the box you got them by the pound, the way it should be, and there were good folks running the place too.

Had one in “Bessmuh” that was the same way. Pretty sure it’s gone now too. Can’t imagine why in such a great town. Phuggin chiggers.

But you can’t tell how many are in the box, because they are in a box, and you can’t buy 1.5 pounds or whatever quantity you want. Plus you can’t tell me that packaging and labor to box doesn’t equate to higher prices.

There are a few of the old time hardware stores left, but you have to go to a relatively small and somewhat isolated town to find one. Grave's Hardware in Collinsville is a good example. The nearest town of any size is Fort Payne which is about 22 miles up I-59. Gadsden is about 25 in the opposite direction. It is in the old Downtown area of Collinsville.

I love places old like that. When you walk in you will notice things like an old wooden plank floor, wooden shelves and I think I remember that last time I was in there they still had an old timey rotating nail bin. Don't quote me on the last one though. You can buy the usual hardware/building material stuff plus they sell things, such as feed and seed that modern building material centers like Lowe's, Home Cheapo, and Marvin's just don't carry. My son bought some Coal for his forge at Grave's yesterday. Try to find THAT at Lowe's.

i'm not affiliated with them, I just like to promote pieces of Americana like family owned Hardware stores, General stores or old Country stores.

Actually the big box stores beat the local hardware store prices based purely on volume. That’s the reason locally owned is going tits up.
