pulled my bow out of the closet yesterday & started shooting again ... i hit the target & didn't lose any arrows, so that was a positive -- but my groups were wide ... just curious to hear from some of you what your routines are to get boned back up for archery season ...

TIA,
BGD

Shoot as often as I can. First few times each year I only shoot at 20 yds to work on form and build muscle memory. Quit shooting when I get fatigued.

I dont bow hunt anymore but I would shoot as little as possible. If you can hit where you are aiming I would go hunting. Seems like to me the more I practiced the more I tinkered and adjusted and wore out and replaced. Todays bows are accurate and it does not require a lot of practice to kill deer regularly with one.

Shoot one at a time. Frequently but randomly and cold. Just like hunting no groups no shooting till I’m tired. First shot.... One shot...... make it count.

This is terrible advice.

I knocked some rust off tonight after I got home. Shot about 30 arrows. Shooting a little hot at 25 yards, gonna wait till I shoot a few more times before I move my sight.

I like to shoot till I get tired. I practice out to 60 to 80 yards just for practice, 40 is max for hunting. But the first shot I take at practice is the one that I use to grade how well I'm shooting. Most hunts that's all I get to take.

Why? I have killed a pile of deer with a bow. I rarely shot a dozen times a year before going hunting. Modern bows will not have to be adjusted much if any between years unless a sight has been moved. The shooting motions are repetitive and someone that has done it for years should have no issue shooting accurately once the bow is sighted in. For a new hunter I understand more practice is needed to learn the repetitive motion.
