What type of video camera are you looking for?

Big buck, I’m a complete newb to video cameras so I’m not sure. I just know I want something that will film in HD and is fairly easy to operate.

Southwood - Im hunting with a cannon Vixia hf r800. It shoots in 1080 hd. Really like it so far. You can pull them off amazon for around $250. With a shotgun mic ( has to run off its own battery for this model) you can get solid video and quality sound. Eventually, id like to upgrade to a Sony that shoots in 4k but your gunna need around $600 for one of those. Have you already go a camera arm and fluid head? A good fluid head and arm make all the difference in the world when it comes to steady, clean footage. I upgraded to a Out on a limb base a few weeks ago to put with my Hawk Camera arm and hopefully will have a chance to test it out soon enough.
Last season was my first time set filming ALL my hunts and the learning curb was tough but I was able to get comfortable pretty quick.
First time filming id look into a camera like the Cannon vixia I mentioned above or the G series by cannon. Both are considered consumer models and you won't be out an arm and a leg if you hate them.

Those vixias are fine little cameras..ive used some of sonys prifessional cameras with good luck but they were bout $4k apiece. We bought 8 or so panasonics to do our video scouting and they are less than the vixia but just as high or higher quality. I forget the model but i wanna say they were around $600. I loved thos cameras and the quality and clarity is amazing...also..an excellent quality digital zoom, shotgun mic compatible. Id look into panasonic too.

Thanks for the tips guys! After reading the comments I’ve done some research on the canon vixia hf r800 and I believe it’s going to do everything I need stating out. I can get on on amazon for $199.
