I’m looking at getting a new chainsaw. Looking at a Husky or Stihl. 18 in or 20in bar. What’s y’all’s opinion?

I prefer Husky, but either one is a good saw if you buy it from a real saw shop and not a box store. The box store models are not the same.if you are willing to drive to Troy Dunn’s True Value can hook you up with a saw, and service if you need it later.

Go with larger than what you think you need. Bigger saw is a little heavier, but on larger stuff, you won't work to death trying to cut it, you can let the saw do the work.

I have a Husqvarna 20" bar 455 Rancher, and it has been a great saw. Had it for about 6-7 years and it has been a work horse and extremely reliable. I think Stihl is the best and the industry standard, and you will pay a little more for it, but you get what you pay for.

Don’t have one, but my observation has been Stihl is hands down the best. My Husqvarna has served me well around the house for small jobs.

They’re both good. Dealer’s choice.

Service will be different and much better from a "real saw shop" but the chainsaws sold from the big box store(s) are the same.

My old Husky, 15 or more years old, cranks every time. Very good saw.

In a lot of other countries, they like a brand called Tanaka like we do Stihl, here. I have a Stihl, a Husky, a Tanaka, and a Shindaiwa...all are good running, good cutting saws. The Shindaiwa is on its' 4th bar (28") and still running strong after 25+ years!

X2. I've cut over 150 truck loads of oak firewood with mine so far. It's been a great saw and has plenty of power with 20" bar.

Stihl saw from CTI, but swap out stock chain for an aggressive one. Thing eats wood and CTI provides great service.
