I vote for Midway too. Great movie. As a side note, probably my favorite WWII movie is “To Hell and Back” staring Audie Murphy as Audie Murphy. For those that haven’t seen it or don’t know who Audie Murphy is should really do themselves a favor and check it out.

I remember my Dad taking me to see Tora Tora Tora at the Alabama theater when it first came out. it is interesting in that the Japanese portion of the film was directed by two Japanese directors and the screenplay was written by Akira Kurosawa the renowned Japanese director. It was very historically accurate being based on a book by two University of Maryland history professors.

There are no big stars in the film, because the producer Darryl F. Zanuck did not want any big names like Charlton Heston or John Wayne detracting from the story. He wanted the story to be the main theme of the movie. He also wanted the movie to be a fair and balanced as possible, hence using Japanese directors for the Japanese portions of the film and American directors for the American portions.

It is also interesting to note that footage from Tora Tora Tora was used in the later production of Midway.

Midway is a great film, it has a stunning cast of characters, solid directing, and is a great story, but I'm still a little partial to Tora Tora Tora for it's historical significance in the way the film was made.

Honestly I think both films should be watched in sequence.

Great answer. Both movies are classics no doubt. Tora Tora Tora does have more of a documentary feel watching it. Because of that, If I was just going to plop down and watch one right now, Midway would get the nod.

Midway. Better than that is listening to a Korean war vet show his great grandson how to load an M1 Garand and say "That M4 poodle shooter is a fine rifle but this one works on Chinese,Koreans and all sorts of things." I nearly cried. Pat's 91 and still carries a milspec 1911 and can still sharpen a knife shaving sharp.

Skinny is my EX.Alcohol was involved.

In an attempt to get back in the good graces of the Aldeer Board of Regions and because I don’t want doekiller as my court appointed attorney, I am in the process of watching Tora x 3. It’s a little slow. We aren’t getting bombed yet

I'm with ya on Midway. I like knowing the strategy. I've been thinking a lot about Bull Halsey lately since I got ate up by chiggers not long ago. Yes Skinny I will use arm and hammer deodorant from now on.

Of the two Midway is my favorite but both are well made WW2 movies.

Always found it interesting at the battle of Midway how a US submarine that launched torpedoes and missed a Japanese ship set events in motion that ultimately caused the defeat of the entire Japanese fleet. In the movie they do have a scene where our pilots spot the Arashi and use it as a guide to the rest of the fleet but do not show any explanation why it was seperated from the the other Japanese ships in the first place.

The best index to a person’s character is (a) how he treats people who can’t do him any good, and (b) how he treats people who can’t fight back.

After watching both, I preferred Midway, but would have liked it much better if not for the stupid love story line in it. If Tora, Tora, Tora had the cast of Midway it would have been the better of the two IMO.
