Thompson center contenders anyone hunt with one found a good deal on one in 30 30

I use to hunt with a T/C Encore 308. I've only killed a few whitetails, a mule deer doe, and an antelope buck with mine. I got tired of the cumbersomeness of carrying it to a stand. I find a rifle much easier to carry than a big pistol.

Are you talking about a handgun? A contender can be either handgun or rifle. I hunted pretty much exclusively with a 7-30 waters improved handgun for a couple of years. A 30-30 would be a great choice, especially if you reload and use pointy bullets. They are fun guns, but pistol scopes suck in comparison to rifle scopes, and I got tired of not being able to shoot the last 15 minutes or so of legal light.

I’ve got a contender pistol with 44 Mag and 357 Herrett barrel. Great shooters! My Dad hunts with the 44 barrel a lot. They are great with a 30-30 barrel as well, I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for one myself.

If you get into Contenders.... I've got a bunch of barrels most are Super 14's. I would sell some of them I never shoot mine much anymore but at one time I hunted with it a lot and it was fun shooting some deer with a handgun.

The 30-30 will be fun for you then. It is a lot different round loaded with a good spitzer type bullet.

I have one. 223/7-30 Waters and 30 Herret - all in 14" bull bbls. Looking at adding a 357 Herret. Love shooting them. Not yet hunted with it. Expect to this season!
