So I am having problems with my under counter ice machine. It is a Scottsman SCN60 and the drain pump wont cut off. Like it will run for as long as the unit is plugged in. It used to run for 4-5 seconds once an hour but now it seems stuck. Door closes completely so it isnt that the ice is melting fast, I have looked for a reservoir tank (that would hold the melted ice until a float tells pump to turn on) but cannot find one. Nothing in owners manual or online that I can find. Anyone have an idea what to try to get it working? Its Africa hot and I want my pebble ice again.

I have a Scotsman Ice machine, something similar happened to mine. It turned out to be the solenoid valve not sealing of completely after filling, this caused it to continue draining.

I cant find a drain float. There is one at the top of th unit for filling the ice machine part, but not a drain. I have found that there is a sensor that monitors pressure inside the drain tubing and turns on the pump. That might be the culprit.
Ill check tonight when I get home.

You are on the right track sumpter. Little pressure switch inside the drain hose. Normally open and closes when there is pressure in the hose.

I have same machine, but was told upfront to avoid the pump. Trenched floor for gravity drain.
Doesn’t help you, but I know it’s an issue for others I could do that. There is a crawlspace. But it is setup this way so I guess Ill try to fix it.

That's why you should keep you spare beer fridge, ice machine and two meat freezers in your $50,000 barn. Like me. 😉

Found the problem. There is a 6" plastic hose (like the water supply hose 1/4") that runs from the drain line to an electronic solenoid, that controls when the pump should turn on. Hose gets "gunked" up and I clean it out when I am cleaning the machine. It must have stretched a little and allowing air to bypass the switch.
Replaced it with a new 6" piece of pipe and it works great. So ill leave drain pump installed until I have another problem.
