I used to work in management years ago for Food World. A manager just couldn't jump out there and open up a register if lines started backing up (considered it taking away hours from the union employees). We had to start calling in a cashier beginning with the person of highest seniority. Meanwhile, the customers would just stare at you in the office and wonder why you weren't out there running a cash register.

Past Ol’ man Finley’s plac...

There is a lot of hyperbole in this thread. I work for a petroleum pipeline company and I am a member of a small local USW Union. We negotiate a new contract every 3 years. Management and workers get along just fine. We get paid a good wage and the company makes a ton of money. It sounds like I’m in the minority’s but I’ve been in my position almost 6 years and I have zero complaints with the union.

It’s true that, historically, union and dems go hand in hand. That being said, the dem party has moved into full blown socialism. There is, in the IBEW at least, a steady shift taking place. The old guys are being replaced and the membership is moving toward the right. Most of the union guys I know will stand flat footed and tell you they voted for Trump. I follow the IBEW FB page. It has moved more and more right to the point I’d say the majority are Trump supporters. Ppl are smart enough to realize that it’s a strong economy and job market that makes a strong union... not the other way around.

Life long conservatives like myself are becoming the norm instead of the exception.

Maybe, but it's not changing the way your union dues are being spent on political contributions. For the 2020 election cycle, the IBEW has thus far donated $236.5K (98%) to dems, and $5.5K (2%) to republicans.

Like I said...your vote doesn't carry nearly as much weight as your union $ contributions do. Those dues dollars work 365 days a year for the dems.

Sounds a LOT like Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

So, should BBB leave the union, leave the good job that he has because of it, take a large pay cut, lose the retirement plans and fully paid family insurance just so his vote isn’t possibly conflicting his dues?

Did it say what area the 5.5k come from? It could have all come from BBB and local 175. grin

I can't answer that. Everyone looks out their own window.

I'm just providing facts and truth.

I work in a business that utilizes Union electricians. I use to think you could be friends with them but after so many years of listening to their whining chit I have decided that union workers are some of the most uncooperative workers there are. Some noted facts

1.) If our union electricians want to change something on a control panel to make it "easier" for them they will not make the decision, don't want the responsibility.
keep in mind they make about 10.00 more per hour than a non-union electrician.

2.) They get two breaks a day, technically they are suppose to last 15 minutes, never happens, violation of their contract. Now if you the BO violates the contract you will hear about it but
you are not suppose to say anything to them if the violate it.

3.) do not try to speed them up, they will slow down. They do not care if the panels are finished on time and as a matter of fact two of them hope they you make an error so they can get OT.

4.) Complain they do not have vacation time so we typically don't talk about it or we get the same old whine "Must be nice to have vacation"

5.) Arrogant, on more than one occasion they have told me that if they get tired of working there they can just go back to the hall and sign the book for work. but these same ones will
come up to me when things slow down asking me if there is any work coming, why you worried, afraid they will lay you off.

6.) Our electricians hate working for us but they get to sleep in their own bed and they won't miss hunting season.

No I do not like working with union electricians. If you join hopefully you won't develop the same bad attitude as the ones I have worked with.

The IBEW is a lot better than USW in my opinion.
