Now that we’ve seen the first gun you killed a deer with, how about your current setup? Be interesting to see the variety.

huntin the big lease
mine is a beater gun that I let rust like a SOB when i was a teenager. it gets tossed around and beat up but its old faithful rem 700 270 with a synthetic stock. I just call the rust my Cerakote finish and keep it maintained so it doesn't get any worse. I'd like to get it dipped but havent made it a priority yet

Early 2000's Remington Mountain Rifle, wood stock and matte finish chambered in 30.06. Easy to hunt with, maneuver in the stand, is deadly accurate and looks better now then it did when I got it.

my favorite is my grandfathers Remington 700BDL in 30-06, engraved and given to him when he retired, I tend to use my Ruger American 243 or suppressed 357 Handi-Rifle more often though.

I’m really starting to like compact rifles more. I just bought a single shot with a 22inch barrel that is 37.5inch overall.

I am loving my Fierce Fury 6.5 Creedmoor with a Swarovski Z6i 5-30x50. Talk about a tack driver. Sometimes, if I just point the gun at the deer, they fall over from fright smile When paired with the Hornady 143gr ELD-X, that is an extremely lethal combination. I shot a Ruger M77 270 for years and years, then a Thompson Center ICON in .308 and both were great set-ups, but really liking my current set-up.

The only deer gun is a .270 WIN.... always has been always will be. I simply cannot be convinced otherwise. There's not a more perfect deer hunting round. If you want the best .270 WIN, get a Tikka T3 Lite as mentioned above (matte stainless and synthetic stock). That is absolutely the most perfect deer hunting rifle on the planet.

308 is far superior to the 270. Just FYI 😆

I know there’s a lot of hate out there for the 6.5 creedmoor. I don’t care about the distance and accuracy stats, all my huntings done under 200 yds. And I really don’t like the name, wish they had called it the 6.5 Hornady or really anything else. But I shoot it because it feels like shooting a .243 but your sending 140 grains. Also flat enough I never have to change point of aim.

Tikka T3 Lite 7mm-08 stainless. I got this from Cuz-Pat. Topped it with a Zeiss 4x14. Best fitting gun and scope combo I have ever shouldered. I like it so much I bought another one just like it in 270 a couple of weeks ago off the site here. Tikka makes a heck of a gun.

My go to for over 40 years has been a Browning BAR in 270 cal. No telling how many deer I killed with it. I never kept count.

Rem. 700 in7mm-08, topped with a Vortex Viper 3.5-10x50. It’s a great deer-killing tool. Also partial to a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 7mm-08. Also sporting a 50mm Vortex. Both of those put deer on the ground last year.

I know it doesn’t seem right. Love fixed power not as many being made these days. They’re lighter, brighter, cheaper, and have longer eye relief. You don’t ever worry about where it’s set, just point and shoot. If I had a variable I prob wouldn’t set it above 4x unless I was at the range. Only thing is its a little too much for brush hunting, I’d rather have 2.5x. In those situations I use a 30-30 with a pistol size red dot.

My current favorite is a cheap Remington 710 .30-06 that my dad gave me for Christmas when I was 13 or 14ish......along with a rattle can paint job. With 180gr Remington Core Lokt, it shoots a lot better than it ought to, to be so cheap.

gonna go with a Rem. Model 700 BDL .270 that I got from a member on here. My 30 year gun, a Win. Model 70 in .270, has got some kind of issue where the bolt won't close with a shell in the chamber and so far, no amount of cleaning or gunsmith has been able to figure out why.

I hate to hear that, that seems like it would be a fairly straight forward fix.

Damn AU338MAG......that’s a lot nicer gun than that M77 7mm Mauser that you would shoot 30 years ago.

Had it custom built by John Gallagher a couple years ago. 338-06 AI.

I refinished the stock on my old 7X57 last year. It looked like someone had drug it behind a truck but it looks better than new now. Need to get the metal reblued next.

Remington model 788 243. Never let me down. Most accurate rifle I’ve ever had. Been using it for about 40 years now.

Steyr prohunter .308 with a Vortex Diamondback II 3-12×42 using 165gr sierra gamekings thing is a tack driver i did polish the trigger but it breaks clean at 2.5 from the factory. last 6 deer ive shot were DRT thru the neck any where from 50-175 yards havent had to track a blood trail yet with it so far.
before that i shot a Howa 1500 .270 topped with a first generation Nikon buckmaster 3-9x50 i polished the trigger in it also to take the grittiness out I used that rifle nearly 10 years and cant count the deer its dropped. my current 2nd favorite for long shots in a shooting house is a Remington milspec 5R .308 topped with a Vortex Viper HST 4-16x44 in an HS precision stock with a Timney trigger set to 2lbs. then i got an old 30-30 that bounces around the truck when im in the brush stomping around

oh and my sons youth model savage trophy hunter 111 in .243 with nikon prostaff 3-9×? I shot a couple deer with it in youth season because my son was sleeping like a rock but he knows the GW drill its also my favorite lightweight rifle to carry into hard to get to places.

1983 Browning BAR in 30-06 with see through mounts topped with a Burris 3x9 scope. This gun has killed more deer than I'll ever be able to remember.

My marlin 1895g in 45/70 is my go to gun. I bought a savage hog hunter to takes its place since it's only a few inches longer and it would be lighter I thought (it isn't according to manufacturer specs but it does feel lighter). With that being said I've never taken it in the woods to hunt with I always grab the lever gun unless i know I'm going to go to one field we have that has some room (200yds+) to shoot then I take my savage model 110 in 30-06 that's setup for longer shots but since i rarely hunt open fields and mainly stick to hardwoods and pine thickets on public land and even on our private land the lever gun always goes except that 2 or 3 times a season when I take my 30-06. I prefer hunting pine thickets and hardwoods from the ground or in a tree and the short lever gun is easy to swing in a climber and easy to walk with on your shoulder in the thick stuff with out getting the barrel snagged because it doesn't stick up way past your head when your walking

Savage stainless weather warrior in .300 win mag with varix-3 3.5x10x50. Same gun I use everytime I go hunting, and have been using it for about 23 years. I don't swap out guns because another comes in style. Only real deer rifle I own.

Currently my favorite is a .270 Remington 7600 topped with a Nikon 3x9x40 scope. Barrel was shortened and recoil pad added to a shortened stock by the previous owner for his wife. It fits my girlfriend perfectly so it’s technically her gun when we hunt together but I enjoy taking it out anytime I’m not stand hunting.

Favorite has to be the 30 year old Ruger M77 in .270 Win, with a good old Leupold 3.5-10X50 on it.

Not the most accurate or sexy, but you couldn't tell me that when I was 14 years old that Christmas morning. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.

My wife bought me a Bergara Ridge 300 win mag for my birthday last year, killed two bucks with it this past season, so that’s one of my favorites, just picked up a Christensen Arms bronze Mesa in 6.5prc,got to put some glass on it and it I hope will be one of the favorites also
